Quick, To The Time Machine! 1999, Stat!

Posted by rich on September 23, 2008

It didn’t take offensive genius Scott Linehan long to figure out what was wrong with his potent offense.  “My job is on the line?  Time to make some adjustments in places that don’t need it!”  Linehan has gone 1999 on the NFL’s candy ass and has benched Marc Bulger in favor of former Rams legend Trent Green.  Remember the last game Trent played in a Rams jersey?  I do.  I bet Rodney Harrison does.  After all, it was Harrison who blew up Green’s knee in a meaningless preseason game and ended Green’s season, ushering the Kurt Warner era.  I think we know how the story goes from there.

Not one to give up on a dream, Green has triumphantly returned to take back his starting job with the St Louis Rams nine years after that fateful day.  He might not have an offensive line, a defensive line, a secondary, a good linebacking corps, or any good offensive players beyond Torry Holt and Steven Jackson, but that’s besides the point.  The main problem with this team is at quarterback!  Duh!

Marc Bulger has been sacked 11 times already this year.  Marc Bulger has a QB rating of around 70.  Marc Bulger isn’t the problem with the Rams.  But dont you dare tell that to Linehan or Trent Green.  This is Trinterception’s team now.  He can’t go out like he did last year.  A concussion won’t slow Trent down.  And besides, isn’t seeing eight receivers instead of four a good thing?  Doesn’t Trent need that kind of cushion?

Trent Green isn’t going to save Scott Linehan’s job and everyone knows that.  Lets just hope he doesn’t go out like he did last time, laying on the turf wondering what the hell just happened.

Jason Taylor Making Noise Again

Posted by rich on June 23, 2007

trent greenDolphins defensive end Jason Taylor, despite being one of the quality guys in the league, seems to always open his mouth at the wrong time.? Last year he had some colorful comments regarding Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman being selected to the Pro Bowl and now his attention is on newcomer Trent Green.

?”This is off the record–oh, what the hell, it’s on the record: He’d better not get hit. One big hit, and he could be scrambled eggs.”

It’s not like Taylor is opening up a vault of secrets about Trent Green.? The guy has had injury problems, notably concussion problems, over his entire career.? The fact that he’s not getting any younger doesn’t help his situation especially considering the Dolphins offensive line is one of the worst in the NFL.? Did you see some of the abortions games Joey Harrington played last year behind that line?? Awful.

Whether or not Green will have success in his new digs is still something that remains to be seen.? His wide receiving corps are infinitely better in Miami than they were in Kansas City but, as I mentioned earlier, the Dolphins offensive line might as well not even show up.? And lets not forget that in Kansas City Green had one of the finest and most dominant front five’s in the game.

It’ll be interesting to me to watch Green play with the Dolphins.? He reminds me a lot of Gus Frerotte, that tool who played for them a few years ago.? The two are practically the same in every aspect; throwing style, lack of mobility, tendency to make dumbass decisions.? I’m just looking forward to that one hit that will probably come around week six where Green gets clocked from the blind side and is done.? Scrambled eggs.

Culpepper’s Fat Ass Ready To Be Shipped Out

Posted by ryan on June 6, 2007

culp3pp3r-custom.jpgWell, that experiment failed. With the acquisition of Trinterception Green, Daunte Culpepper’s days in South Beach appear to be numbered. The injury-prone Culpepper was lousy with the Dolphins last season, throwing just two touchdowns. However, I wouldn’t expect much out Trent Green. He’s old, concussed, and downright mediocre these days.

“They would like to trade me in order to ‘get something for me,”‘ Culpepper, who is his own agent, wrote in an e-mail after meeting with Miami general manager Randy Mueller and first-year coach Cam Cameron. “However, it is my position that I have already been down that road and I am not interested in being traded.”

What exactly can the Dolphins get from a guy with knee problems, a guy that’s never shown ability to play without Randy Moss? Just how long will Trent Green be able to hold down the fort in South Beach? A couple of seasons? Picking up Trent Green and drafting Brady Quinn would have been the smart move here, giving the Notre Dame sack-toucher someone to learn from. Instead, the Dolphins drafted the Ginn Family.

It’s hard to guess what’s next for Daunte Culpepper. Just a few years ago, he was putting up gaudy numbers at the Metrodome and now, he’s going to be unemployed. It’s the latest twist in a strange Miami offseason. I don’t think their situation is envied by many teams in the league.

This Is Long Overdue

Posted by rich on June 6, 2007

trintFinally, Dolphins and Chiefs fans, the day that we have waited for has come. Trent Green has packed his bags and is headed to Miami to play quarterback for the Dolphins in exchange for a conditional 2008 fifth round draft choice.

All I can say about this trade is ‘what the hell took so long?’ These trade talks have been floating around for three months now, and to think that the dispute was over a conditional draft pick in the fifth round is pretty outrageous. Amongst other things, it’s just not fair for Green to be stuck in limbo. Then again, that’s the story of his career.

Trent Green loves getting replaced. Brodie Croyle has been dubbed his successor in Kansas City, and I’m not exactly sure what kind of grass Chiefs management is puffing to believe that will work out. This isn’t the first time he’s been owned. There was that one guy who took his job in St Louis as well. And it’s not like he’s going to outright win the job in Miami. Daunte Culpepper likes to believe he still has enough talent to play, and if he’s healthy his fat contract will probably earn him the starting job. Either way, new head coach Cam Cameron (don’t you love the guys who have the same first and last name?) has to pick and choose which quarterback is going to throw less interceptions for his team. Both Culpepper and Green have that timely knack to get picked when the game is on the line.

Whatever happens in Miami this season will be an adventure. Cameron has comfort knowing that they have two “quality” quarterbacks who can fill in if necessary. At least Green will have someone to throw the ball to now, as Miami at least has a decent group of receivers. As for the Chiefs…well…they’re still looking for a go-to guy not named Tony Gonzalez.
