Lets go Snubbing

The AFC and NFC Pro Bowl teams were released yesterday and, as is the case every year, there were a fair share of controversial picks and snubs. Players such as Ladainian Tomlinson and Drew Brees were shoe-ins for the Hawaiian Classic while others such as Tony Romo and Lito Sheppard only leave fans scratching their heads as to how they got elected. Without further ado, here’s my brief list of the greatest Pro Bowl snubs this year.
Charles Woodson, CB, Packers. Woodson came into this year touted solely as an overpriced old piece of baggage that almost nobody wanted to make a play at except for the Green Bay Packers. The Packers took a gamble with Woodson, and he has rewarded them with 6 INT’s, 56 tackles, and overall solid play opposite Al Harris. Lito Sheppard, who missed 3 games and doesn’t have the numbers that Woodson has, is going to Hawaii instead.
Michael Vick, QB, Falcons. As much as it pains me to say it, Vick should be hitting the Honolulu beaches this February. His numbers dont stand out as Pro Bowl numbers (19 touchdowns, QB Rating of 76.1), but with the exception of Drew Brees, no quarterback in the NFC stands out. Despite turmoil within the organization and seemingly constant rumors of Vick being moved elsewhere, he’s held it together this year and has nearly rushed for 1000 yards, something that many feature backs in the league cant say for themselves. Who should he replace? Tony Romo. Romo’s story has been great this year, coming off the bench to resurrect the Dallas Cowboys season, but that doesnt mean that he deserves a spot in the Pro Bowl because he’s only played 9 games this year. Vick, meanwhile, has played all 14 games and has better overall numbers. And besides, in a game like the Pro Bowl which is made for fans, which of the two would you rather see play?
Warren Sapp, DT, Raiders. Sapp, who led defensive tackles in Pro Bowl voting, got the axe by players and coaches and wasnt invited to the Pro Bowl. Widely regarded for his big mouth rather than his defensive play, Sapp has struggled in recent years and has been seen as an overpriced overrated talent. That is not the case this year, as Sapp has found second wind in his career and established himself on one of the better defenses in the league. His 8.0 sacks are the best of any interior lineman and his 39 tackles from the defensive tackle position have solidified the Raiders defense.
Honorable Snubbing Mention: Marcus McNeill, OT Chargers, Tom Brady, QB Patriots, DeMeco Ryans, LB Texans
