Sportable NFL Pick ‘Em: Week 17

Posted by ryan on December 27, 2008

Standings
Ryan: 116-108-7
Rich: 114-110-7
Kevin: 112-112-7

Sonny: 108-108-6*

*Sonny did not submit picks for the early games in week 15.

Ryan: Patriots -5.5 over Bills. The Patriots need this game, obviously. And while the Bills had an inspiring effort in Denver, they’re going to find things a lot more difficult against the Pats. Matt Cassel is in a groove and has shown that tough conditions don’t slow him down. I like the Pats.
Rich: Patriots -5.5 over Bills.
Kevin: Patriots -5.5 over Bills.

Sonny: Patriots -5.5 over Bills.

Ry: Chiefs +3 over Bengals. The Chiefs lost another heartbreaker last week against Miami, but should have a good shot of sealing the deal against Cincy. I can’t take the Bengals as a favorite, so I’m gonna side with the surprising Tyler Thigpen.
Ri: Chiefs +3 over Bengals.
K: Chiefs +3 over Bengals.

S: Chiefs -3 over Bengals.

Ry: Packers -10.5 over Lions. This is it, Detroit. You stand one game away from football immortality. Don’t screw it up. Go Pack Go!
Ri: Lions +10.5 over Packers.
K: Lions +10.5 over Packers.

S: Packers -10.5 over Lions.

Sportable NFL Pick ‘Em: Week 16

Posted by ryan on December 20, 2008

Standings
Ryan 109-101-7
Kevin 104-106-7

Rich 104-106-7
Sonny: 103-99-6*

*Sonny did not submit picks for the early games in week 15.

Ryan: Browns -3 over Bengals. I have to pick somebody. And considering the Bengals haven’t covered a road spread since week five, I’m inclined to take the Browns here. But really, who gives a damn about this game? Not I.
Kevin: Browns -3 over Bengals.
S: Bengals +3 over Browns.
Rich: Bengals +3 over Browns.

Ry: Saints -7 over Lions. I refuse to pick the Lions, it’s that simple. The Saints are fully capable of getting dismantled defensively and keeping this one close into the 4th quarter. But I think Drew Brees will have the last laugh. Lions go 0-15 and will sit just one game away from history.
K: Saints -7 over Lions.
S: Lions +7 over Saints.
Ri: Saints -7 over Lions.

Ry: Dolphins -3.5 over Chiefs. A spread that seems too good to be true, but the Chiefs have been one of the best teams in the league at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. The Dolphins are playing for something, so I don’t imagine them coming out flat.
K: Dolphins -3.5 over Chiefs.
S: Chiefs +3.5 over Dolphins.
Ri: Dolphins -3.5 over Chiefs.

Sportable NFL Pick ‘Em: Week 15

Posted by ryan on December 13, 2008

Standings
Ryan: 101-95-6
Kevin: 99-97-6
Rich: 97-99-6

Sonny: 97-99-6

Ryan: Redskins -7 over Bengals. The Skins have fallen on some hard times in the last month, largely because they can’t score any points. Lucky for them, the Bengals’ offense has been even worse. The Skins finally get a breather after a really tough stretch in their schedule, and I think they roll here.
Rich: Redskins -7 over Bengals.
Kevin: Redskins -7 over Bengals.

Ry: Texans +3 over Titans. I know the Texans are playing some good football, but this small spread still screams “trap game.” Therefore, I’ll take Houston.
Ri: Titans -3 over Texans.
K: TItans -3 over Texans.

Ry: Colts -17 over Lions. Come on, Peyton. Just show up, kick some ass and send the Lions even closer to a historic 0-16 season. Detroit hung with Minnesota and I can’t see them putting up two competent efforts in a row. Colts roll behind their rejuvenated offense.
Ri: Colts -17 over Lions.
K: Colts -17 over Lions

Sportable NFL Pick ‘Em: Week 14

Posted by ryan on December 7, 2008

Standings
Ryan: 94-87-6

Kevin: 89-92-6
Sonny: 89-92-6
Rich: 88-93-6

Ryan: Jags +6.5 over Bears. This pick isn’t a backing of the Jags as much as it’s a bet against the Bears, who have lost three of their last four and looked pretty awful doing so. Will either team be able to get much going with temperatures in the low 20s? Look for an ugly display of football and a low-scoring game.
Rich: Bears -6.5 over Jags.
Sonny: Jags +6.5 over Bears.
K: Bears -6.5 over Jags.

Ry: Vikings -9.5 over Lions. I had toyed with picking the Lions to keep it close until a judge ruled in favor of the Williams behemoths. Now that they’re going be suiting up, the Lions have little hope. Vikes roll and Detroit’s quest for the perfect season continues.
Ri: Vikings -9.5 over Lions.
S: Vikings -9.5 over Lions.
K: Vikings -9.5 over Lions.

Ry: Texans +6 over Packers. Time is running out for the Packers this year, but this isn’t the best team for them to be facing. After getting dismantled on the ground by Carolina, Steve Slaton rolls into the Frozen Tundra. The Texans have quietly covered their last three spreads, while the Pack have lost four of five.
Ri: Packers -6 over Texans.
S: Packers -6 over Texans.
K: Texans +6 over Packers.

Sportable NFL Pick ‘Em: Week 13

Posted by ryan on November 26, 2008

Standings
Ryan 82-83-6
Kevin 81-84-6

Rich: 80-85-6
Sonny: 80-85-6

Ryan: Titans -11 over Lions. Want to lose your appetite? Watch the Lions play. Unfortunately, Tennessee lost last week, so this game doesn’t match the unbeaten vs the beaten…but it’ll still be one of the biggest beatdowns of 2008. Look for Haynesworth to eat three Lions players before he even gets to his turkey.
Kevin: Titans -11 over Lions.
Rich: Lions +11 over Titans.
Sonny: Titans -11 over Lions.

Ry: Wade Phillips’ Breasts -12.5 over Mike Holmgren’s Breasts: A matchup between two fat coaches that would rather be stuffing their face. The Cowboys always make it rain on Thanksgiving, and this game will be no exception. With Tony Romo, Dallas has quickly gotten their swagger back.
K: Cowboys -12.5 over Seahawks.
Ri: Cowboys -12.5 over Seahawks.
S: Cowboys -12.5 over Seahawks.

Ry: Eagles -3 over Cardinals. Why are the Eagles favored here? Because I think they’re catching the Cardinals in a tough spot, flying east after a physical game with the Giants. I just think Donovan McNabb has something to prove here. If he flops again, he may never start another game in Philadelphia.
K: Cardinals +3 over Eagles.
Ri: Cardinals +3 over Eagles.
S: Eagles -3 over Cardinals. Read the rest of this entry »
