It’s the MLB Trade Deadline and We’re Live Blogging!

Posted by rich on July 31, 2008

It’s the final two hours of the MLB Trade Deadline and, in case you’re away from a TV and can’t get access to the millions of rumors being thrown around, we’re going to Live Blog everything that goes down for you. Manny to the Marlins? Dunn to the Rays? Stay tuned, it should be fun.

11:01: Holy smokes, while you were sleeping the big names started dropping. Ken Griffey Jr has reportedly agreed to go to the White Sox in exchange for two minor league players that will probably work into the equation for the Reds next year. Arthur Rhodes, a reliever for the Mariners, was also shipped off to the Florida Marlins. While the Marlins still need help with starting pitching and another bat, this will help the bullpen.

11:05: All reports are that the blockbuster deal involving Manny Ramirez to the Marlins and Jason Bay to the Red Sox seems to be all but dead. These next two months in Boston should be fun to watch while Manny dogs it on ground balls and gets booed for his lack of hustle.

11:07: Jason Bay might not go to Boston but he’s still rumored to land in Tampa Bay and…Toronto? What the hell? Does Toronto GM J.P. Riccardi know the Jays are 10 games out?

11:08: I feel like the rumors of Adam Dunn being shipped off are mostly dead namely because Griffey was traded earlier. I don’t see the Reds shipping off both Dunn and Griffey in the same morning and making Jay Bruce the only offensive threat in the lineup. Then again, its the trading deadline. Crazier things have happened

11:10: Keith Law has made his first appearance on ESPN. I’m hoping the boom mic falls and hits him.

11:11: Jayson Stark and Peter Gammons are busy reporting contradictory things about the Jason Bay to Tampa rumors. I still think it’s a possibility despite Gammons insisting it isn’t. Gammons just doesn’t want to see it happen because he’s a Red Sox fan.

11:13: The Cubs are reported to be interested in Milton Bradley. I don’t think the Rangers would want to part with Sorry! despite being all but out of the race. I think they’d have to be floored with an offer and frankly I don’t think the Cubs are willing to part with big names.

11:15: ESPN is bent on Steve Phillips being the expert of all experts about the trade deadline because he’s been through a few with the Mets before getting ‘canned. Hey Steve, Victor Zambrano for Scott Kazmir. Nice.

11:16: I’m realizing that, to Keith Law, every prospect shipped in deals is capable of being a good player at the Major League level. Be realistic, asshole. Read the rest of this entry »
