There’s now More to That John Daly Story

Posted by kevin on June 12, 2007

In probably the least shocking news story of the month, it turns out there is more to the tale of John Daly being assaulted by his wife. Daly claimed that his wife attacked him with a steak knife and tried to stab him. Now his wife Sherrie Daly is fighting back (not literally) saying that Daly was the one who assaulted her and then scratched his own face to cover up the incident.

It’s hard to tell who could be telling the truth here. On one side you have a professional athlete who often finds himself in the public spotlight and has a reputation to protect. That in itself makes Sherrie’s story seem somewhat convincing. The problem is Sherrie is not an angel herself, in fact, she’s far from it. She is the same woman who served time in a federal penitentiary for taking part in a drug and gambling ring along with her parents. Considering these two were also at a time considering a divorce, this leaves us sitting around scratching our heads. Someone has to be telling the truth, we just have zero idea who it is.

I’m going to take John’s side of the story. Not because I don’t trust his wife, I just don’t think Daly would think about scratching his face to cover up the fact that he attacked her. I don’t doubt Sherrie’s claims that John was making sexually offensive gestures and remarks, because let’s face it, any of us could picture John doing just that. It will be interesting to see how this mess plays out, it isn’t like it is going to affect the way John plays, he probably couldn’t get any worse, but it is certainly going to take a psychological toll on him.

Mrs. Daly is not Pleased

Posted by kevin on June 9, 2007

John Daly showed up to the golf course yesterday with a few interesting marks on his cheek. Daly also reported to authorities that his wife attempted to attack him with a steak knife. This probably came after Daly and his wife enjoyed a nice steak (no surprise) and far too much alcohol (again, little, if any, surprise).

The fact that Daly’s wife got pissed enough to rage at him with a steak knife is very impressive. He must have really screwed up, because it seems as if he has treated her fairly well. Daly did support his wife when she and her parents were going through jail time and court cases against them for a variety of illegal activities. She repaid this support with an attempt at his life, although I think that a butcher knife, or a meat cleaver would have been a little more effective. This is really the last thing that Daly needs right now. He is struggling as it is to make it on tour, playing on sponsors exemptions only, to be attacked by his wife could be distracting. When he knows he can’t go home without flirting with death, I don’t think his golf game is going to be that good.

Daly is such a lovable character that I think everyone feels bad for him. He continues to fall into the trap of being with the wrong people, and he’s paying the price for it. This time he almost paid with his life. It is sad to see someone with so much talent not have the chance to use it. This, combined with his injuries, will surely ensure next year is just like this one, hoping for sponsors exemptions every week.

John Daly Flips a Bird to Rehab

Posted by ryan on April 25, 2007

We all know of John Daly’s chronic troubles with alcohol, among other things. He made two trips to alcohol rehab before he even turned 30. He also had problems with a drug dealing spouse and gambling but it looks like he’s battled out of those. A recent Maxfli commercial starred Daly, who is seen grabbing beer out of people’s hands and starting all sorts of chaos in a bar. In the commercial, Daly sings a horrendous song called “Go Long or Go Home,” in reference to the new Maxfli Fire ball. CBS has decided to go home, banning the commercial from airing on its network. This doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I have zero interest in seeing Daly’s fat ass sing and dance in a bar.

John Daly Sets Golfers Back Years

Posted by kevin on March 2, 2007

daly-fat-custom.jpgJohn Daly has always been the outrageous character in golf. He has in essence been the rebel, conforming to few, if any, golfing stereotypes. All that changed on Thursday when Daly suffered an injury only a golfer can sustain.

Fortunately this injury wasn’t caused by hitting a golf ball off a Diet Coke can. The down side is, it was caused by a simple camera. A spectator took a picture of Daly mid-backswing, and Daly decided to pull off his swing. Somehow stopping his swing lead to a pulled muscle. I know he swings hard, and I know he has a long swing, but a pulled muscle? Come oh John, you’ve been doing this for a long long time, and you can’t pull out of a swing?

I don’t understand how someone could be so affected by something so little either. The shutter of a camera shouldn’t be enough to disturb a swing. Just look at the majority of golf courses, you have people yelling and noise constantly, how does one camera shutter ruin everything? Ever heard of concentration? This is one of those things in sports that I’ll just never understand and unfortunately it has taken a casualty, the great John Daly.
