With NFL training camps opening up around the league and College Football Live’s return to ESPN, I thought it’d be fitting to start a daily article on the happenings in the world of football, both professionally and collegiately. Every weekday, I’ll break down some of the day’s top stories from the gridiron.
- Caron Palmer has lots of things on his mind this offseason. A few months after bashing the Cleveland Browns, Palmer went on a Los Angeles radio show and made his feelings about the Ohio State Buckeyes…very clear. Palmer, speaking about the USC-Ohio State clash, said that he “cannot stand” Ohio State, and expressed frustrations about “all the crap” he hears about the Buckeyes. Well, Carson, you do play in Big Ten Country.
- One of the offseason’s biggest soap operas finally came to an end yesterday, as the Dolphins traded tap-dancing Jason Taylor to the Washington Redskins for a 2nd round pick in 2009 and a 6th in 2010. It’s hard to tell who got the worst of this deal. The ‘Skins suffered some injuries on their defensive line and responded in the way they’re accustomed to: Squandering draft picks for someone who will play two more seasons, at most. Meanwhile, the 1-15 Dolphins just traded one of the most productive defensive lineman in NFL history. Nice.
- Another “distracting” veteran was sent packing as well. Jeremy Shockey, one of the league’s biggest team cancers, finally made his move to New Orleans official. The Giants receive a 2nd and 5th round draft pick in next year’s draft. A nice haul for the Giants, who seem comfortable with Kevin Boss. But if Shockey keeps his trap shut and plays (a long shot), he should see plenty of opportunities from quarterback Drew Brees.

Prior to his decision to join Dancing with the Stars, I didn’t have much of an opinion on Jason Taylor. He’s a hell of a football player and he’s stuck in Miami on the worst team in the NFL. Since Taylor started prancing around like a fruitcake, however, his attitude about football has seemed to change and the media seems to think anything and everything he says about his football future is important.
Taylor did an interview a few weeks ago saying that his role on Dancing with the Stars wouldn’t affect his status on the Dolphins and that he’d be there for workouts. He’d missed voluntary workouts because of the show but maintained that a leader “gets it done when it matters” and that he’d handle his business and set an example for all the young players on the Dolphins. Wrong. What a crock of shit, Jason.
Now Taylor has stated that he won’t be attending any workouts for the Dolphins and that he’d like to play one more year, whether it’s for the Dolphins or for another team. Taylor’s mind is elsewhere; he’d rather be wearing an Aladdin costume doing pirouettes on primetime television. He’s turned his back on his teammates and he’s blatantly lied to them about being the responsible leader that a veteran like himself should be. Furthermore, he can’t stop putting his face in front of camera’s and spouting off about things that simply aren’t true. Bill Parcells needs to step up and bitch slap this cat.
Taylor wants to do other crap after football, I get that. What he needs to do is stop letting his future plans cloud his current standing as a football player. Cut the crap and play the game, Jason. Stop lying to your teammates about being a leader and start playing football.

Emmit Smith. Jerry Rice. Mark Cuban. Helio Castroneves. What do these guys all have in common? They all cut the rug on the popular TV show, Dancing with the Stars. Go ahead and add Jason Taylor to that list. Taylor, who is still currently playing for the Dolphins but clearly has other things on his mind, has agreed to be part of the new season.
Immediately after finding out about this, I began to wonder what Taylor’s motivation for joining the show was. Is he just warming up for an inevitable role as King Xerxes in the 300 musical? Is he just showing his other Dolphins teammates that he can not only play football (which a lot of the guys on the team can’t do anyways, 1-15 LOLphins) but can also break off a dance move or two? Or is he trying to start a new wave of offseason training in spite of the Tuna’s new off-season regiment?
Will I inevitably tune in to watch Taylor twirl and fling himself around in an excessively flamboyant outfit? Hell yeah. There’s nothing that amuses me more than athletes making a mockery of their image. Taylor doesn’t need the extra time in the gym, he’s locked in for a Pro Bowl season regardless. So while all the other Dolphins figure out how to bring home more than one win next season, Jason Taylor will be figuring out how to salsa and cha-cha slide.

Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor, despite being one of the quality guys in the league, seems to always open his mouth at the wrong time.? Last year he had some colorful comments regarding Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman being selected to the Pro Bowl and now his attention is on newcomer Trent Green.
?”This is off the record–oh, what the hell, it’s on the record: He’d better not get hit. One big hit, and he could be scrambled eggs.”
It’s not like Taylor is opening up a vault of secrets about Trent Green.? The guy has had injury problems, notably concussion problems, over his entire career.? The fact that he’s not getting any younger doesn’t help his situation especially considering the Dolphins offensive line is one of the worst in the NFL.? Did you see some of the abortions games Joey Harrington played last year behind that line?? Awful.
Whether or not Green will have success in his new digs is still something that remains to be seen.? His wide receiving corps are infinitely better in Miami than they were in Kansas City but, as I mentioned earlier, the Dolphins offensive line might as well not even show up.? And lets not forget that in Kansas City Green had one of the finest and most dominant front five’s in the game.
It’ll be interesting to me to watch Green play with the Dolphins.? He reminds me a lot of Gus Frerotte, that tool who played for them a few years ago.? The two are practically the same in every aspect; throwing style, lack of mobility, tendency to make dumbass decisions.? I’m just looking forward to that one hit that will probably come around week six where Green gets clocked from the blind side and is done.? Scrambled eggs.
