A lot went on in the world of sports this week, and there are a few images that we wish had been captured by the cameras, actually there are a few images we just wished happened.

Ricky Williams was kindly welcomed back to the NFL this week, if only his teammates and fans had supported him with this banner, we think the welcome back would have been that much better.

Barry Bonds is going to have to get used to his new home. His indictment this week will most likely end his playing career, and if we’re lucky, could wind up with him behind bars. On a lighter note, Bonds may no longer have to protest the Hall of Fame, because with this on his record, he might not even be let in.

Phil Jackon’s reference to the Lakers-Spurs game as a “Brokeback Mountain” type of game, was probably the highlight of the week. Combined with his apology, it launched him into the number one spot of my favorite current coaches. If only we had seen Kobe and Tony Parker sporting this look before the game we would have found the comments a little more believable.

There’s a hell of a chance that none of us will ever see the electric, the immortal, the unbelievable Mike Vick play football again. Vick pleaded guilty on Monday to dog fighting charges and brokered a plea deal with the federal government. The charges pending have a consequence of up to five years in prison and fines of up to $250,000.
See ya Mike. To hell with you. Finally all those patriotic warriors of the legal system can shut up about Vick “not being guilty until he got a fair trial.” He’s done. Not only is he going to spend at least the next year in prison, he’s going to get suspended by Roger Goodell when he returns from the jail sentence. There’s always that team that is willing to take a gamble on someone despite off the field issues but I think this is an entirely different situation. Adding Mike Vick to an NFL team is P.R. suicide. In a country that seems to be so infatuated with their pets, it appears that this crime is more heinous than even murdering another person. What kind of person murders this kind of face in cold blood?
If Vick returns, does anyone really believe he’ll be able to play quarterback? He couldn’t play quarterback even when it was his daily job, now he’s going to be in a cell block and not on the field for a few years. America loves to give people second chances in life, but I’m not so sure Mike Vick will be one of those people. Even if he turns his act around, this is something that’s going to live with him forever. Good. Enjoy your next 18-36 months inmate #846242, errrr Mike Vick.

Yesterday, Falcons QB Mike Vick threw three picks and was sacked four times was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of running an illegal dog fighting ring. So much for the “experts” saying that there was a very slim chance that the hammer would be brought down on him. Among the other things he’s done such as giving herpes out and flipping off fans, this by far will be the most damaging to the once-dubbed prodigal son of quarterbacking. These aren’t simple dog fighting charges that Vick has been hit with. No, these include execution of dogs who wouldn’t fight via electrocution, hanging, and even throwing one to the ground until it was dead. Vick has some issues to sort out here, and they aren’t just legal. He’s sick, and that’s something that in the eyes of the public will not be reparable.
Vick has been considered a very polarizing character to fans both in Atlanta and around the football world. Consider that polarization magnified. While he has never lived up to the hype he had coming out of Virginia Tech and he has done a few idiotic things while in Atlanta, the Falcons have refused to give up on him. It’s fair logic to maintain that stance because there’s no way the Falcons could just let the former first overall selection walk. He’s too talented. While he hasn’t put it together yet, there’s still a chance that he might. Then again, there’s a better chance that he could spend up to 6 years in the slammer on not only dog fighting charges and take hits of up to $375,000 in fines. And if Vick has any intentions of putting his career together, now would be a good time to do that because after this year, Ron Mexico could become Inmate #45860.
