Sportable Spot Episode 39: Interview with Gus Johnson

Posted by peter on January 15, 2008

Hosts: Kevin and Sonny

In this week’s episode of the podcast we interviewed our favorite sportscaster, Gus Johnson, who is a play-by-play announcer for CBS Sports as well as the New York Knicks. A favorite among sports bloggers, Gus Johnson has created his own trademark style of announcing, and has quickly become a household name for his energetic and sometimes out-of-this-world commentating. (In a good way)

Update: It looks like our friends over at Awful Announcing also did an interview with Gus Johnson in December. Be sure to check theirs out as well.

You can subscribe to the Sportable Spot via RSS. (iTunes and Zune links are coming)

Sunday Cup of Coffee: Damian Jackson

Posted by sonny on August 5, 2007

damianjackson.jpgEvery now and then, on Sundays we’ll be posting exclusive interviews with athletes. Our first interviewee is Major League Baseball player Damian Jackson, who has played in the bigs for 11 years. His career included stops in Cleveland, Cincinnati, San Diego, Detroit, Boston, Chicago, Kansas City and Washington. Jackson’s best seasons came with San Diego, where he stole more than 20 bases for three straight seasons. We’d like to thank DJ for taking the time to answer some questions of ours.

Sportable: Out of all the Major League Baseball clubhouses you were a part of, what was the best one to be around? What locker room came with the best perks?
Damian Jackson:
The Boston Red Sox. We had so many clowns on that team that just kept everyone loose. Also, there is no better perk than to meet celebrities like- Bill Cosby, Ben Affleck, J-Lo, Ray Charles..etc.

S: What was it like playing at Fenway Park on a daily basis? Is it completely different from other parks?
DJ: Awesome! Mentally and Physically exhausting all at the same time. Every game is so important!

S: Who is your least favorite player in the game today?
DJ: Without a doubt, Barry Bonds…in 2001 a good friend of mine, Mike Darr was killed in a car accident in spring training. Almost every player in baseball ( including Jeter, A-rod…) donated items for a bowling tourney we put together for his wife and kids. Barry told us “NO!” He wouldn’t sign a jersey, bat..nothing!
