Guest Writer Kyle Stevens: Where has the Contact Gone?

laimbeer-custom.jpgAs we enter the dawn of the basketball season, I find myself torn. On one hand, basketball is a game I grew up with. It is a very available game and its the only thing filling the void between the Super Bowl and baseball season. Yet, I just can’t watch it. I turn on a game and within 15 minutes, I’m either on the computer or channel searching. Nobody has a jumper, nobody plays defense and frankly, I can go out and drive uncontested too the hoop myself. I don’t need to spend time watching others do it.

I can’t watch the NBA. I can’t watch College. I hate March Madness, I think I may be the only person in America, but I honestly can’t stand it. I hate the NBA, despite getting caught up in Piston madness a few years back.

Frankly, I hate organized basketball.

But I say that with regret. Basketball is usually the only sport I can play, since there are no pickup football or baseball games. Its always on, and well, everybody loves March Madness, why can’t I?

Wait, I know why, its not Basketball. Where has the blue-collar gone in Basketball? Where has the work ethic gone? Where the F is the contact? Read the rest of this entry »
