When Gilbert Arenas tore his meniscus, a part of me died. Now we don’t get to see the antics of Agent Zero as he leads his team into the playoffs. The Wizards really need some help now that they’re missing both Arenas and Caron Butler. They probably won’t be finding themselves in a good position come playoff time, so at least I know I’m not the only one depressed Arenas got hurt, there are a bunch of Wizards fans with me.
I just think seeing Arenas in the playoffs would have been absolutely ridiculous. He would have stepped his game up to another level that I’m not even sure is humanly possible. Arenas would have been Mr. Clutch in the playoffs, and he probably would have made a few more bets, either with fans or with other players. Those certainly would have been entertaining to hear about, but alas, we will have to wait until next year.
So here is to a speedy recovery by you Gilbert. You have the best wishes of Sportable, and I’m sure many other people. We want you to push your way through rehab this offseason and then come back and kick some more ass next year. It’s just too bad we won’t be able to Arenas in action this summer with the USA national team. We can thank Jerry Colangelo for that, and trust me, Arenas already has. Him, and the entire USA basketball staff.

Gilbert Arenas is trying to be the most ridiculous player in the NBA, and he is well on his way to doing so. First he had the bet with his teammate for the three point shooting contest. Then of course there was Arenas spouting off about how he was going to drop 50+ on all the teams who had coaches that snubbed him from Team USA.
Now Agent Zero is finding himself in trouble with the NBA for his actions against the Trailblazers. He reportedly made a $10 bet with a fan that he would make the game winning shot. Of course, Arenas missed the shot and now owes the fan $10. In trying to follow in the footsteps of the NFL, the NBA is turning into the no fun league. Arenas wrote in his blog on NBA.com about the bet, and some of the suits were not too happy with this.
The blog has been censored and there is no longer any mention of the bet. But don’t worry; Arenas has every intention of paying off the bet. He has the e-mail address of the fan, and evidently a second one that he also made a bet with, and wants to get in contact with them to pay it off.
My question remains, why only $10? If you’re loaded enough to be sitting courtside you probably have more than $10 to be betting against Arenas. And despite the fact that the fans won, why would you bet against Arenas hitting a game winning shot? This guy has proved again and again that he is just great, certainly not the type of person I would want to bet against. I also think it’s great that Arenas would do something as ridiculous as this to piss off the NBA, and that’s part of what makes him great, he just doesn’t give a damn.

Id like to preface this article by saying that Gilbert Arenas’ challenging of the Portland Trail Blazers because head coach Nate McMillian left him off the US national team is pure brilliance. Knowing that someone like Arenas is going to play his ass off and make it a personal issue to beat one team because of a coach is enough to captivate many more people than this game would have normally. Be honest with yourself, you probably wouldn’t take free tickets to a Trail Blazers game.
Arenas got shut down today. He said he was going to put up 50 on Portland…try 9. Arenas had one of his worst shooting performances of the season, going just 3-15 from the floor including a terrific 0-8 from three point range and failed to get double digit points for just the second time this season. What kind of lesson can be learned from this? Don’t, as I call it, Guaran-sheed victories. This word comes from one of the greatest mouths to ever play basketball, Rasheed Wallace. Can you count on your hand how many times ‘Sheed has guaranteed victory? Not unless you have a mutant hand. Arenas is just another case of a pro athlete guaranteeing something, whether it be victory or a mind blowing 50 points, and simply not coming through with it. Play your own game Gilbert, and let your insane amount of skill speak for you. And as long as we’re on the topic of guarantees, I guarantee I will never be caught dead in those candy wrapper Wizards jerseys. Did someone lose a bet over those things or did they let Gilbert get ahold of the design. I bet he guaranteed he could create the worst looking jersey possible. At least you followed through with something Agent Zero.

In case you were wondering about the status of the Gilbert Arenas Revenge Tour, it’s still alive and well. And if Agent Zero has his way, the Portland Trail Blazers will be the next victims. The Wizards have suffered two blowout losses in Arenas’ past revenge games, losing by 16 to the Lakers and by 22 to the Phoenix Suns.
“Even if you don’t watch the game, you’re going to look at the box score to see what happened,” Arenas wrote. “My last one o’clock game was 51 against Utah. So I’m feeling pretty frisky.”
If you were wondering why anybody would have a grudge against the Blazers (besides their fans), look no further than head coach Nate McMillan, who was an assistant coach for USA Basketball. After Gilbert Arenas was cut from the FIBA World Championship team last summer, he’s vowed to unleash payback on anyone who had a roll in his cutting. McMillan is one of those people.
We haven’t heard anything from Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski in response to Arenas’ vow to score 84 or 85 points against Duke. Considering Duke has lost three in a row, having Arenas own them might not be such a bad idea. Further embarrassment might snap the Dukies out of their funk.
As long as Arenas is breathing, this story of bitterness and revenge will continue. I’m all for it. If you’d prefer to hear it in Arenas’ own words, check out his blog.

Remember when Gilbert Arenas was cut from the U.S. Men’s Basketball team last summer? Yeah, so does he. And he isn’t letting it go. I’ve heard of grudges, but Arenas may be taking this to an entirely new level.
This guy is just pissed. He’s been playing angry the whole year and we can see the results. He’s been playing out of his mind and it’s been great to watch. He’s played his way into a starting spot on the Eastern Conference All Star team, and it’s a spot he deserves.
At the beginning of the year he promised that his biggest games would come against the Suns and the Blazers, both of whom are coached by men who were assistants to Mike Krzyzewski on the U.S. National team. He delivered against the Suns and Mike D’Antoni, dropping 54 on them. He claims that his next 50+ point game will be against the the Trail Blazers.
The best part is, he isn’t done talking there. He said that he would give up a year of professional playing to go back to college for one year and play against DUke. Not only that, he said if he played the Blue Devils, he wouldn’t pass the ball once, he’d take every shot and he’d drop 84 or 85. He likened his would be performance to a video game. I’d say this is a man with a mission.
He doesn’t want to take his revenge out just by showing everyone he can play. No,he wants his revenge against everyone, and it’s personal. What do I think? I think this is great. I want Arenas to have a grudge every year, I want everyone to play with a chip on their shoulder like this.

Forget the Wizards snapping the two longest winning streaks in the NBA this year. They’re on a pretty nice streak themselves. Behind the absolutely insane play from Gilbert Arenas, the Wiz find themselves just a couple out in the Southeast Division. The Wizards have won 8 of 10 and boast the league’s top scorer when you exclude the Denver Nuggets duo of Anthony and Iverson.
Sunday night, Arenas dropped 60 on Kobe Bryant and the Lakers, prompting Bryant to say Arenas lacked a “shot conscience.” But the way he’s shooting, I don’t think the Wizards give a damn. He’s continued his impressive play by scoring 54 in last night’s overtime win in Phoenix.
The Wizards have become one of the league’s most exciting teams. They’ve only scored under 100 points once this entire month and they’ve gotten eight 30+ point games from “Agent Zero.” Regardless of Arenas’ “shot conscience”, he leads his team in assists with 6.3 and he’s chipped in 2.1 steals a game as well.
With guys like Lebron, Kobe, and D-Wade constantly hogging headlines this preseason, its nice to see Arenas continue his phenomenal play. He also has some help in Washington in the form of Caron Butler and Antawn Jameson, two guys that are bringing about 20 points a night.
“He wants to win,” Washington coach Eddie Jordan said. “He wants to show he’s going to be one of the greatest of all time.”
A bit premature? Probably. But the way Washington is playing, they’re going to be a fun team to watch come playoff time. It’s fun to watch the Gilbert Arenas “revenge tour” continue. This performance last night as a statement to the head of U.S. Basketball, Jerry Colangelo, the same guy who cut Arenas from the USA team. The Wiz have some talent and a superstar that’s become possessed with proving people wrong. Now if they could only part with those hideous jerseys.
