We?re big fans of College Football here at Sportable. However, we usually don?t jump into coverage until we get to read some preseason magazines and play EA Sports? NCAA Football. This guest article will be part of a new weekly feature on Sportable. Every Thursday until the start of College Football season, Ted Bauer from A Price Above Bip Roberts will discuss college football. If you?d like to submit a guest article, send us an email.
Around the beginning of my sophomore year of college, I kind of went through a transitional period with regard to friends. I had been hanging out with one group - mostly my suitemates - during frosh year, but when I came back after that summer, I kind of didn’t like them as much. I don’t know what it was; I certainly wasn’t off doing high culture things like going to the Washington Monument every weekend. I was pretty much attending keg parties, nothing more and nothing less. If I had a productive Saturday, that typically meant reading Sports Illustrated while sitting outside.
I became better friends with another group of people, but because housing for junior year has to be determined mid-sophomore year, I kinda wasn’t in their housing plans. To make an extremely long and belabored story much shorter, here’s what happened: I ended up living back on campus for the beginning of junior year, with one transfer (from the University of Georgia) and one kid who had nowhere else to live (a surfer dude from Cali). It was an interesting mix.

The University of Georgia’s women’s golf coach, Todd McCorkle resigned following an embarrassing string of events. Several players complained of inappropriate and sexual comments and jokes that were made by their head coach. To cap it off, McCorkle evidently showed his team the Paris Hilton sex tape, found almost anywhere on the internet.
Evidently McCorkle was confused about which team he coached. He must have thought he was coaching the men’s golf team, or something. I have to assume that regardless of what sport you’re coaching, or who you’re coaching, on any level, showing them porn is just a bad idea. When you follow those up with sexual innuendos and jokes, you’re just asking to lose your job. Somehow, McCorkle was not asked to resign, he was only asked to undergo anti-harassment training and take a one month suspension without pay. Instead of agreeing to these terms, McCorkle quit, clearly finding it necessary to continue his lewd jokes elsewhere.
At this point, you have to assume the entire Georgia men’s golf team is cursing their luck. I couldn’t tell you who their coach is, but he probably isn’t showing them porn videos or cracking jokes with them. I can’t even being to fathom what was crossing McCorkle’s mind when he thought showing the sex tape was a good idea. I’d love to see his next job application and his reason for leaving his last employment. That could make getting another job quite the struggle.

In what may become a more frequent feature on Sportable, drunken quarterbacks are suddenly appearing everywhere around the Interwebs. The culprit this time? Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford, who was photographed several times last weekend. He’s posing with a girl, he’s lifting empty kegs (of Gatorade!), and spooning his male friends. Oh, and he’s making strides in Spring Practice, according to head coach Mark Richt.
“Overall it was a pretty good day and it was one of those spring scrimmages were the offense had the best of it. That does not happen very often around here or around the country really. This may have been the best offensive scrimmage since I have been here.”
That was following the Georgia scrimmage in April. Stafford has done himself one better with these pictures. Maybe he’s trying to build up some hype for the Dawgs in 07, maybe he’s trying to take advantage of the publicity that Brady Quinn got with his questionable pictures. Either way, I suppose it’s working. Before this article, we had mentioned Stafford a whopping one time. Now he has his own column! Yay!
Kudos go to Deep South Sports for the find. Another blog, Every Day Should Be Saturday, has also found a gem of Florida sophomore Tim Tebow. Isn’t Facebook great?
