Ten ESPN Commercials That Missed The Cut

Posted by ryan on May 7, 2007

In response to the great feedback we received over last week’s Top Ten, we’ve decided to show ten videos that missed the cut in our top ten. Because there were so many to choose from, tons of gems were left out. We thank everyone for the feedback in last week’s article and hope you enjoy this week’s ten.

Bobby Labonte: Before road rage was a weekly occurance on the NASCAR circuit, most drivers stayed pretty level-headed during the race. One of those calm drivers was Bobby Labonte. But in this clip, an unidentifiable mascot (bulldog?) takes a joy ride in Labonte’s #18 car. As Labonte flips out, Rich Eisen slips him a few bucks.

Top Ten ESPN Commercials

Posted by ryan on April 30, 2007

10. Leading it off with a Peyton Manning commercial is expected, considering he’s on about 37 commercials that are currently airing. Peyton, Eli, and Archie are touring the ESPN studios and the brothers do what every pair of siblings do: they fight. The highlight of this one is Eli getting owned in the legs at the very end.

Top Ten Reasons To Hate Colin Cowherd

Posted by kevin on April 6, 2007

colin-cowherd-herd-custom.pngTop ten lists are always fun, and so is hating Colin Cowherd. After the stunt he pulled on our friends over at The Big Lead we decided to piece together a top ten reasons to hate him. This shouldn’t be too hard and we expect most of you to agree with us. If you come back later today and our site is down, you’ll know the reason.

10. His voice is just annoying. Just listen to an entire show, it’s worse than Jim Rome and his non-stop silence.

9. He has a made for radio face. I’m not saying that I’m Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp, but I’ve certainly got a better mug than him. That is one face that needs to stay on the radio.

8. His damn producer. Can we please get that girl off the air? She never adds anything remotely useful to the show. In fact, she was the one that provided the link to Cowherd. Stop asking her for relationship advice on the air. Your wife Kim wants you to take out the trash. Just do it and shut up. Read the rest of this entry »

Colin Cowherd Has No Soul

Posted by ryan on April 5, 2007

cowfaggot.jpgIf you read us, there’s a good chance you read many of the other great sports blogs out there. One of those is The Big Lead. This is a blog that’s been one of my favorites since we got going in October. In fact, they were the first blog to ever link us. And for that, we defend them in their battle. Who are they battling? ESPN’s Colin Cowherd.

Here’s a guy with some serious, serious entitlement issues because he works for ESPN. Last year, he reportedly “found” some humorous Wonderlic questions while browsing the Internet. Those actually came from The M Zone, a Michigan Wolverines blog. Deadspin jumped in and most blogs united against Colin. Cowherd eventually realized he was wrong and gave credit to the site that provided the real material. Basically, he finally gave in to the fundamental rule that journalists shouldn’t steal material. What a novel concept!

And now, Deadspin has broke another story involving Cowherd and those pesky bloggers. This time, it involves The Big Lead, who allegedly wrote some disparaging remarks about Cowherd and his show. Cowherd responded like any classy member of the media would. He told his listeners to “unleash a DNS attack” on the site. Some nerd in a basement took those demands without question and flooded Big Lead with fake traffic, crashing the server in the process.

Isn’t this a classy gesture? Trust me Colin, I don’t care about your ESPN affiliation. After all, this hack is employed by ESPN too. She has an opinion; I disagree with it. But I’m sure as hell not going to call for someone to hack her site. A great thing about the Internet is everyone can write what they think, regardless of how outlandish it is. But because of your childish act, I will never listen to any other ESPN Radio show again. Cowherd and “The Herd” can suck it.

MNF Close to Being Salvaged

Posted by ryan on March 25, 2007

mnf-crew.jpgAll of the hype surrounding ESPN’s debut of Monday Night Football last season evaporated real quickly when we all found out that the announcing team was among the worst ever assembled. Tony Kornheiser would deliver his pregame nonsense and then constantly bicker with Joe Theismann. And akwardly, Mike Tirico would sit in the middle of it and try to call an event that wasn’t the PGA Western Open. All in all, it was a disaster. But that may be changing.

ProFootballTalk is reporting that Theismann will not return to the MNF broadcast booth in 2007 and that Ron Jaworski will replace him. To put it simply, this is fantastic news. Jaworski was excellent when he got the chance to announce during the Chargers-Raiders season opener during MNF’s “historic” doubleheader. His colleagues, Dick Vermeil and Brad Nessler, were also better than their “A Team” counterparts.

Theismann was always trash in the booth. But at least he would engage in (sometimes) humorous arguments with Mike Patrick and Paul Maguire, the old announcers during NFL games on ESPN. With those two out the door, he became even more of a trainwreck. Kornheiser offered little humor and Tirico was probably rewarded the gig just because he’s been with ESPN for so long.

MNF is close to being rescued. As much as I’d love to see Nessler replace Tirico and have Vermeil replace Kornheiser, we’re probably stuck with those clowns for another season. Jaworski should help and he’s a damn nice upgrade over another man offered the job: The Big Titties Tuna, Bill Parcells.

Shut up Michael Irvin. Now.

Posted by ryan on October 26, 2006

irvin.jpgI love Tiki Barber. And I love the fact that he doesn’t like Michael Irvin. Because quite frankly (not to use any Steven. A. Smith lines), I don’t either. Tiki took some time out from his radio show on Sirius, “The Barber Shop”, to bash on Irvin. Barber called him and other ESPN analysts idiots for referring to his retirement as “quitting”. Irvin has no room to talk about any subject, ever.

Irvin called Barber’s retirement “quitting” during ESPN’s NFL Monday Night Countdown. Really Irvin? Weren’t you quitting on your team when you were suspended for 5 games due to a drug arrest? Were your frequent trips to “The White House” distracting to your teammates? I think announcing a retirement months in advance is a lot less damaging than snorting nose candy and having sex with prostitutes. But maybe that’s just me.

When Barber announced his retirement effective at the end of the season, it didn’t surprise me much. After all, he’s young, still walking without pain, and ready to move on to other things. But I guess Barber was pretty distracting this week. After all, the Giants did blow out Irvin’s Cowboys 36-22 and Tiki did rush for 115 yards. And he does lead the league in rushing.
Of all the people to call out Barber, it makes no sense for it to be Irvin. One of Barber’s main reasons for walking away is so he isn’t limping or being carted away. Michael Irvin was unfortunate enough to be carted off with a spine injury in his last game in the NFL. Barber isn’t waiting for something like that to happen. He’s retiring as one of the premier backs in the league. Michael Irvin may have retired from the NFL, but he’s still actively involved in his career of being a jackass.
