More Fun in Wrigleyville!

lee-young-fight-custom.jpgCubs first baseman Derrek Lee and Padres pitcher Chris Young threw down in what might be the tallest fight between two baseball players ever. They must have seen Rich’s post this morning and figured they should entertain the fans and myself with good old fisticuffs. Lets take a look at the tale of the tape.

In the left corner: Derrek Lee. Height: 6?5. Weight: 245. Claim to fame: Originally started his career with the Padres, could have leftover animosity and built up rage.

In the right corner: Chris Young. Height: 6?10. Weight: 260. Claim to fame: Princeton Grad. He?s got more going on upstairs than you know about.

If you had to describe today’s events in the North Side, you could use one word: Cubs. After Derek Lee was ejected in the 4th inning for throwing a few hooks at Padres pitcher Chris Young, the game turned over to the Padres’ bullpen. Were the Cubs fired up after the brawl? No. They got two hits in six innings of the Padres’ long relief squad.

Does this club have any composure at all? After Alfonso Soriano eye-humped his homerun yesterday, the Padres were pissed off and took it out on Lee. These sorts of things should inspire your team to win, not scrape together two hits and lose. After losing the no-hitter in the 8th, Zambrano allowed a Jack Parkman Russell Branyan homer, which turned out to be the difference. Losing a no-no hurts but losing the game hurts even more. And now, the Cubs will likely lose Lee for a few games.
