Make Up Your Damn Mind

favre-hang-it-up-custom.jpgRoger Clemens, Curt Schilling, and Brett Favre are three of the finest athletes we’ve had in the last 15 or so years. They’ve won championships, individual awards and most of all, been total badasses when the game is on the line. They’ve played through pain, they’ve played through tragedy, and they’ve played with class. And now that they’re getting up they’re in age, they’ve gotten indecisive.

In what’s becoming an annoying trend, these three guys have mulled over retirement for the last few years. It’s a damn near weekly occurance. First, Favre wants to ride on his tractor and Schilling wants to spend time with his family. Then Favre realizes tractors aren’t that tight, while Schilling realizes his wife is annoying as hell. Meanwhile, Clemens can somehow skate by every year and sit on his ass. When somebody calls him in summer, he’s then given 10$ million per start and half of Haiti. It’s getting annoying.

Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate what Favre has done for the game. There’s three things that stay loyal to Wisconsin. Cheese, cold, and Brett Favre. Schilling has had a great career and we all know what Clemens has done (348 wins, headhunting, steroids?). But when it’s time, it’s time. And it’s time to make a decision.

It doesn’t make sense to hold your organization hostage over your decisions. I think they can all play a year or two more, especially the pitchers. All I ask for is an early commitment. Either stay or go. If you guys do end up retiring, do it at the same time so your sappy tributes can be done within a week. Thanks.
