It’s been a rough rookie season for Kenny Irons, the former Auburn running back. After being selected in the 2nd round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Bengals, Irons blew out his ACL during the preseason and hasn’t toted the rock all season. But at least he’s keeping his sense of humor…we think.
The ashy fellow you see above is none other than Irons, complete in black spandex with matching black footies. Did he lose a bet? We’re not sure. Hell, I don’t think I want to know the reasoning.

For the entire month of August, the Sportable Staff will look at one National Football League team a day. We?ll look at their offense, defense and in the end, assess their playoff chances. Previews will be done by division, starting with the NFC East. Each new division will also feature a new podcast devoted entirely to that division.
Who Dey? The Cincinnati Criminals Bengals have had their share of ups and downs over the past few years under Marvin Lewis. Carson Palmer had his leg completely shredded in the playoffs, Chad Johnson made a list of cornerbacks who couldn’t cover him, and the team hit double digits with arrests by having 11 police-related incidents since 2005. Yet through it all, this is still a very competitive team and there are many reasons to be proud to be a Bengals fan in 2007.
Offense. The Bengals have arguably the best offense in their division and one of the best in the NFL. It all starts with Carson Palmer who, when he’s not tripping over pylons in a QB challenge or getting his leg mutilated by Kimo Von Oelhoffen, is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Despite many people not believing he’d be able to play a full season due to knee rehab, Palmer played in all 16 games and threw for 28 touchdowns and just 13 interceptions. On the end of most of those touchdown receptions were two outstanding wide receivers in Chad Johnson and T.J. Housyourmomma Houshmandzadeh. I’ll be up front about my love for Chad Johnson right now. People are annoyed by his celebrations sometimes but, in a league that has quickly become the ‘No Fun League,’ it’s fun to see guys who are still willing to have a good time and do what they do best; entertain. It’s not like Chad Johnson is a guy who is tearing the clubhouse up like Terrell Owens did in San Francisco, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Dallas. Johnson himself has said that he had a down year last year and really wants to work on his blocking and route running. 87 catches, 1369 receiving yards, and 7 touchdowns is a down year? Johnson also said he has set aside money for fines this year and says that his week one celebration will be epic. You know you’ll watch. T.J. Houshmandzadeh has a really hard name to spell and is even harder to cover on the skinny post. For a guy who was a 7th round pick back in 2001, Housh has really become an elite receiver. Last year he led the team in receptions with 90 and had 9 touchdowns. Together, Housh and Chad form one of the best one-two receiver combinations in the NFL and they will only get better when criminal wide out Chris Henry returns after his 8 game suspension hiatus. If I told you that an NFL player was arrested, the first thing you would think of is the Cincinnati Bengals. Once again, you’d be correct. Running back Quincy Wilson, who ironically played with fellow criminal Chris Henry at West Virginia, was arrested this past weekend in Huntington, Ohio. Wilson, along with five members of a wedding party, were arrested for disorderly conduct.
The arrest over the weekend of a football player for the Cincinnati Bengals is creating big controversy in Huntington.
Quincy Wilson was part of a wedding party celebrating at the envy nightclub, and he was arrested for disorderly conduct after leaving the club. Wilson is friends with the couple that got married on Saturday.
Included in the other five criminals was the bride and groom of the damn wedding. Nothing screams matrimony like a ride in a police car. Rather than doing the Macarena and YMCA dance, most of the wedding party thought hitting the clubs was a good time after the ceremony. But perhaps they could have chosen a better location? In the last week, the Envy Nightclub had reported shots fired and a stabbing near the area.
Disorderly conduct doesn’t give us much to work with but there’s some definite potential with this story. Did Wilson choke somebody out with his cummerbund? The Bengals and West Virginia have had some success on the field but damn, have they produced some losers or what? If my count is correct, this is the 11th different Bengal arrested. It takes a special, special group of players to achieve that.

It’s been a pretty good couple of weeks for the sports blog With Leather. They received lots of attention in a Washington Post article about high school pole vaulter Allison Stokke and now, they’ve been tipped on a story before any major media outlets. An anonymous tipster has reported to the blog that Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman crashed a house party and, as expected, pulled out a gun.
The incident escalated into a dangerous situation after Thurman was called out for grinding on a girl. The girl’s boyfriend then went back to his game of pool after telling him to stop. By doing that, he received a swift ass-kicking from Thurman.
Big mistake. Thurman ran up to the guy, pushed him down, and kicked the shit out of his face knocking the guy out. He then left, and moments later came back with his entourage carrying guns. Some of the people there were able to calm him down, and get him to leave for good.
It’s a real gutsy move by Thurman, a 240 pound linebacker. At least he didn’t go Pac Man Jones on us and beat the guy senseless with a pool cue. It appears that the blog has made some phone calls and has had the incident confirmed by several people at the party, including the owner of the house.
While we should take this with a grain of salt, would any incident involving Thurman be surprising at all? This is the same guy who just received a sentence for rehab and two years probation after getting a DUI. This is the same guy who also missed the first four games of the 2006 season after a failed drug test. And besides, he’s a Bengal. That should tie up any loose ends.
