Cincinnati is Cursed

cincy-bearcats.jpgCan Cincinnati ever catch a break in the game of life? Their hero, Pete Rose, bet on baseball. The owner of their beloved Reds, Marge Schott, hated blacks and Jews. And their lovable Cincinnati Bengals have a long history of a) losing games and b) getting thrown into prison. What’s next? How about the Cincinnati Bearcats?

Reports are coming out regarding a former soccer player having sex with current and potential football players. An anonymous letter was sent to Cincinnati’s athletic department that gave some details on what went wrong.

The newspaper reported that the letter said the sex acts took place during a party at which alcohol was served, the sex acts were videotaped and the tapes have been circulated in UC dormitories.

“I’ve been in a college environment long enough to know that any kind of allegations need to be thoroughly looked at,” football coach Brian Kelly said about the reports. “Everything that I heard should be taken seriously and should be handled by the appropriate people.”

Sex and alcohol are about as synonymous with college life as textbooks, so this comes as no surprise. Unfortunately, it’s a major no-no when athletes, especially recruits, are involved. I know if I went to a school on a recruiting visit and was greeted to shots and my choice of any girl I wanted, it’d be tough to turn down, even if the football team sucked as much as Cincinnati.

Because wrongdoing and Cincinnati go hand-in-hand, I’m still awaiting some players from the Cincinnati Jungle Cats of Af2 and the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL to do some time. As long as they don’t make any comments about Adolf Hitler being “good in the beginning but going too far” like another notable sports figure, they should turn out okay.
