Melo Just Wanted a Big Gulp

melo-711.jpgNote to self: Never, ever mess with Carmelo Anthony or anyone he’s ever been associated with. If you mess with Melo himself, you’re likely to receive a sneak attack similar to the one he tried at Madison Square Garden a couple months back. If he’s not the one beating your ass, then someone in his entourage will. That’s what happened at a 7-11 this past month.

On March 18th, Melo and his friend Rahchine Craig were at a 7-11 when they were confronted by a fan, who asked for Anthony’s autograph. Craig told the man no. The man really wanted that autograph, to the point of berating Carmelo. Listen dumbass. If you want an autograph, you should probably ask nicely. If the athlete says no, that should probably end the discussion.

“The victim told Carmelo he is a ‘punk’ and began a verbal argument with the suspect,” the report stated. Craig followed 19-year-old Herrera, of Denver, into the convenience store and “punched, pushed and slammed the victim onto the floor,” the report said.

Maybe Melo and his friend were just hung over after a long night of Irish Car Bombs. Or maybe they’re just a pair of assholes. Either way, Carmelo Anthony’s friends are a bad bunch. This isn’t the first time his crew has gotten into trouble. On one hand, he might need some new friends. But if he finds new friends, who’s going to beat some ass near the Slurpee machine?

Melo Gets Screwed

Piss poor decisions in all-star voting are nothing new. That just seems to be what happens when you give the fans the power of voting. I fully expect terrible decisions to be made in all star games. What I don’t expect is coaches making those mistakes.

Unfortunately that is exactly what happened with the NBA all-star reserve selection. Carmelo Anthony was somehow left off the roster. Now I know he’s probably going to be added due to injuries on Western Conference roster, but it’s the principle of the matter. I don’t usually sit and bitch and moan about people not making all-star teams, but I’m making an exception this time.

Carmelo is leading the league in scoring, at 31.3 points per game. That is ridiculously high, and for a player who has other talent around him to help out, the number becomes even more incredible. So why didn’t he make the team? Is it because he missed 15 games due to a suspension? Hopefully not, because Shaq has missed practically the whole year but he’s still going to play.

Melo deserves to be on this roster, plain and simple, more than that, with the numbers he has put up he deserves to be starting. I’m not asking for that, there’s no way the fans would let that happen, I’m just asking to give the deserving man a roster spot. Sure he punched someone, but the guy served his time, and is still a hell of a player. What, are we afraid he’s going to punch someone at the all-star game? It’s just stupid, let the man play.
