We found this video over at Parlayer and their description of the video as “classic” doesn’t do it justice. Back in 1992, some fan was stupid enough to (somehow) get out onto the ice to get some laughs. He may have gotten some laughs but he also got about 15 punches from the Sabres’ Rob Ray. You can’t blame Ray because you’re simply not sure what the madman is going to do once he’s on the ice. When in doubt, punch his ass into oblivion.

In a recent Oakland Raiders Ottawa Senators game, Renee Luck was anything but lucky. The female Sabres fan was reportedly punched in the face during game four of the NHL Eastern Conference Finals, which the Sabres won. The Senators chief operating officer, Cyril Leeder, has decided to make things right, offering Luck tickets for game six if the Sabres pull out a win in today’s game five. A local hotel has also promised her a free room.
Luck’s face was swollen and cut after she was assaulted by two men as she and a group of friends were leaving their seats at Scotiabank Place. Luck was rescued by other Senators fans.
“We don’t condone that kind of activity,” Leeder said after the team arrived in Buffalo in preparation for Game 5 on Saturday. “This is the least we should be doing in this case.”
It just goes to show that there’s assholes everywhere, whether it’s in America, Europe, or even Canada. I’d say that’s quite an overreaction, considering the Senators were still up 3-1 after their loss. Why slug an opposing fan, especially when she’s a woman? It’s good to see some Senators fans came to their opponent’s rescue. If this was Europe, I doubt that would happen. Some neutral bystander would have probably taken a plastic chair to her head, ala WWE.
Of course, we won’t know the whole story and we probably never will. Luck may have been prancing around talking junk and/or defacing the Canada flag. But she was probably just happily exiting the arena, celebrating her team’s win. Rearranging her face isn’t necessary.

In response to the fight between the Sabres and the Senators from a few nights ago, the NHL levied a few fines. One of the people who was slapped with a fine happened to be the Sabres coach Lindy Ruff. Luckily for Ruff, the Buffalo Sabres fans have decided to step up, and there are two separate fan campaigns underway to pay his fine.
What the hell is that? That’s just the only question I have. Why the hell do the fans think that it’s their responsibility to pay his fine? I can understand the defending of the coach and the “support” if you will, but come on. The man probably makes more money than most of the fans, and probably doesn’t need their help.
I guess it is a nice act by the fans but if they want to help out the team maybe they should have joined the fracas against the Senators. If I were a Sabres fan, I certainly wouldn’t be giving my money to this cause. The coach should learn to keep his mouth shut and avoid acting out of control so he doesn’t get hit with these fines. I’d pocket the money and donate them to the next set of seasons tickets I had to buy. I guess if we learned one thing from this it is that there are still a few hockey fans out there and they are dedicated.

Let’s be completely honest, hardly anyone watches hockey anymore. And really, the only reason they do is for the hits and the fights, sounds a bit like NASCAR to me. During the Buffalo Sabres v. Ottawa Senators game last night we got both of those. Chris Drury was flat laid out on what may or may not have been a dirty hit, which has put him out indefinitely with a probably concussion. Buffalo promptly responded by sending out 5 of their best goons to throw down, and what happens next is in the video below. Take particular note of the goalie fight, followed by the Sabres forward entering the fray against the goalie. High comedy.

The Buffalo Sabres are off to one of the best starts in history, posting an 11-0-1 record through their first twelve games of the year. Add to that a goal differential of +26 and you have the most dominant team in the NHL. Maybe their new look is cause for the dominance. Whatever it is, it will be interesting to see if they can keep it up.
The Sabres aren’t the only team making noise in the NHL though. The Anaheim Ducks are right there, with a 9-0-4 record of their own. While both of these teams were picked by many to be the top teams I don’t think anyone expected both of them to be undefeated in regulation one month into the season.
It’s good to see legends up on the top of some statistical categories, but it raises questions when these legends are as old as Jaromir Jager and Brendan Shanahan. Props to them for leading the league in points and goals respectively. It makes you wonder though, how the old guys are still keeping up with the young guns. Are they really just that much better? Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin would like to say otherwise. Malkin and Crosby could turn out to be one of the best one two combinations in league history. They have to keep this up through an entire season though, which Crosby has shown he can do, but Malkin (as a rookie) has yet to prove. These two could be the main reason that Pittsburgh actually has a chance this year, and they bring great excitement to the game that could actually help the NHL get some fans back.
Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, Mathieu Garon is asking how a goalie who leads the NHL in save percentage and posts the lowest goals against average has a 3-2-1 record. Maybe he should get his Kings teammates to answer that question for him. A team with the best goalie in the league shouldn’t be stuck in 11th place in the Western Conference, especially in the current NHL where goal scoring has become commonplace.
Someone needs to wake up Ottawa. This is a team that should be dominating, yet somehow finds themselves sitting in 13th in the Eastern Conference. They aren’t being plauged by injuries, this team just isn’t playing well. They have all the talent to challenge the Sabres for hte number one spot in the East, but so far this season it sure doesn’t look that way. I’m sure that they’ll figure something out to turn this season around, but it better be sooner rather than later.
