Sportable Spot: Episode 55 AFC East Preview

Posted by kevin on August 31, 2008

In this episode we take a look at the AFC East.  We start off getting prescription drugs from Nick Kaczur with the New England Patriots and then smoke weed with Kevin Faulk move onto the rest of the division.  Of course a look at the AFC East wouldn’t be complete without illegally taping other teams signals talking about the new poster boy for the New York Jets.   You might be interested to see us wear crappy gray hoodies hear our predictions about how this division will play out, they seem to go against the common trend now.

“Kevin Everett” Does Not Appreciate Law Enforcement

Posted by ryan on March 24, 2008

It’s been months since this video surfaced on YouTube and various blogs, but I just caught wind of it from Sonny. I’m a big fan of technical errors during broadcasts, so this video is an incredible find for me. The following is a local news station supposedly discussing Kevin Everett’s recovery. Instead, the clip shown is of a large black man (not Everett) riding into a courtroom in a wheelchair and kicking a cop. The tension that follows is, of course, hilarious.

An ESPN Employee Will Be Fired Tonight

This screen captures comes compliments of a forum I visit frequently. Honestly, how in the hell does this get past the chain of command that exists during a broadcast like Monday Night Football? Whoever screwed the pooch will likely be getting some sort of punishment tonight. If this blunder isn’t proof that MNF should stay the hell away from Buffalo, I don’t know what is.

Thoughts on Kevin Everett

Posted by rich on September 11, 2007

bills logoI don’t think there was a bigger reminder of how valuable and how blessed many of us are just to be able to walk than this weekend when Bills back up tight end Kevin Everett fell to the turf and lay motionless after making the special teams tackle to start the second half. Everett suffered a dislocated and fractured neck, both indications that paralysis would soon follow. Doctors have said that, though we should all remain optimistic, the chances of Everett making a full recovery are very slim.

I don’t know if there’s a more tragic story to start the NFL season in recent memory than this one. Say what you will about these athletes making boat loads of money that they don’t deserve. This is the reality of the game. Every time each player steps on the field, his life is put on the line. When you see a player go down on the field, you assume you’ll get the thumbs up after a few minutes of medical attention. You assume that player will get right up and walk off the field. You assume that player didn’t suffer a career ending and life threatening injury. As we learned, that’s not always the case.

The entire Sportable staff’s thoughts and prayers are with Kevin Everett and his family. This is no longer an issue of if he’ll play next week. This is life and death, something that even the richest NFL player can’t put a price on.

Sportable Spot Episode 32: AFC East

Posted by ryan on August 22, 2007

buysomefuckingclothes.jpgHosts: Sonny, Ryan, Kevin and Rich.

In this episode, the entire Sportable staff discusses the AFC East. With Adalius Thomas and Randy Moss now in the mix with New England, are they a lock to win the Super Bowl? Or will Moss run his mouth? Will an aging defense have enough left in the tank to survive San Diego, Indianapolis, Baltimore and other AFC contenders. In Miami, what will Ted Ginn Jr.’s impact be? All of this and more in the latest episode of the Sportable Spot.

You can find Episode 32 here. (Download mp3)

Note: At the time this podcast was recorded, the Jets hadn’t signed their first round pick, Darrelle Revis. They’ve since signed him.

A Team A Day [Day 17] A Buffalo Bills Preview

Posted by ryan on August 20, 2007

bills-logo-custom.jpgFor the entire month of August, the Sportable Staff will look at one National Football League team a day. We?ll look at their offense, defense and in the end, assess their playoff chances. Previews will be done by division, starting with the NFC East. Each new division will also feature a new podcast devoted entirely to that division.

Bills Hoping to Get Hyphy in ‘07
The Bills entered the last two years as one of the darkhorses in the AFC. They had closed out 2004 with six wins in their last seven games, narrowly missing the playoffs. Since then, not much has gone right. The Bills followed up a five win 2005 season with just seven wins in 2006. They enter 2007 optimistic about the future but as far as the present goes, it’s difficult to say. The starpower of Willis McGahee, Nate Clements, and Takeo Spikes are no longer there. But young players like Marshawn Lynch and Paul Posluzny are waiting in the wings.

Offense
The story in Buffalo remains the progression of quarterback J.P. Losman, who closed out 2006 as a pretty capable option behind center. He exceeded 3,000 yards and threw 19 touchdown passes to just 14 interceptions. But he’s far from a sure thing. That’s why the Bills drafted Trent Edwards out of Stanford in the 3rd round. Edwards’ presence should give Losman something to keep his eye on. But it’s also going to create an inevitable quarterback controversy if when Losman struggles. New Yorkers aren’t reasonable. If Losman makes one bad pass, fans will call for Edwards.
