Sportable Pick ‘Em 2008: Week 5

Standings
Ryan: 34-24-1
Sonny: 29-29-1
Rich: 28-30-1
Kevin: 28-30-1
Ryan: Colts -3 over Texans. I think a bye week is just what the doctor ordered for Indianapolis. The Colts need to establish a running game in this one. Lucky for them, the Texans are giving up about 160 yards a game on the ground. Look for Joseph Addai to finally get going here.
Rich: Colts -3 over Texans.
Sonny: Colts -3 over Texans.
Kevin: Colts -3 over Texans.
Ry: Ravens +3 over Titans. In a game where points will be at an absolute premium, I’m going to take the points. To me, it comes down to turnovers here. Will the Ravens even give Joe Flacco a chance to make a mistake. I know the Titans will let Kerry Collins air it out more, which sets up nicely for the nasty Ravens’ defense playing at home.
Ri: Titans -3 over Ravens.
S: Titans -3 over Ravens.
K: Titans -3 over Ravens.
Ry: Chargers -7 over Dolphins. The Chargers need to stop spotting their opponents 10+ points while on the road. Norv Turner’s team avoided disaster last week, coming back from a 15 point deficit against the Raiders. Now they face a motivated Miami team that’s had two weeks to prepare. The Chargers are back to .500 and don’t want to fall back under that mark, I think we see a real motivated performance here.
S: Dolphins +7 over Chargers.
Ri: Chargers -7 over Dolphins.
K: Chargers -7 over Dolphins
Ry: Panthers -10 over Chiefs. Anything can happen at Arrowhead Stadium, as shown by the Chiefs’ impressive performance in their upset of the Broncos. But now they travel to Carolina, a team that’s 3-1 and playing some very good football. I think we see the Chiefs get back to their ugly ways once they realize LJ can’t run for 200 yards every game.
Ri: Panthers -10 over Chiefs.
S: Carolina -10 over Chiefs.
K: Carolina -10 over Chiefs.
Ri: Warshington Reeeskins +6 over Chunky Soup Defense. Washington looks like a team that is getting stronger and stronger as they grasp the west coast offense. It looks like Santana Moss has decided to play like a pro bowler this year, which is something that I’m convinced he flips a coin on every year before the season starts. The Eagles are banged up, simple as that.
Ry: Redskins +6 over Eagles.
S: Eagles -6 over Redskins.
K: Eagles -6 over Redskins
Ri: Falcons +3.5 over Packers. This pick is based on my speculation that Aaron Rodgers won’t play this Sunday. Matty Ice has a tough challenge on his hands with the outstanding secondary of the Packers, though they’re a bit banged up without cornerback Al Harris. Michael Turner needs to have a big day for the Falcons to win, and I think he’ll do that.
Ry: Packers -3.5 over Falcons.
S: Packers -3.5 over Falcons.
K: Packers -3.5 over Falcons.
Ri: Bears -3.5 over Lions. This seems like the lock of the week. I love the Lions but firing Matt Millen won’t have its’ desired effects until the off-season and into next year. I’ll live with the Bears winning this game provided Calvin Johnson goes beast mode for my fantasy team…again. Bottom line, I like the Bears in a convincing win.
Ry: Bears -3.5 over Lions.
S: Bears -3.5 over Lions.
K: Bears -3.5 over Lions
Ri: Matt Casselrole -3 over Niners. When in your wildest dreams did you imagine the Patriots only getting three points against the 49ers. Bill Belichick has had two weeks to plan for this game, hear all about that huge upset by the Miami Dolphins, and murder hookers in his basement. He’ll be ready, and so will this Patriots team.
Ry: Pats -3 over Niners
S: Patriots -3 over Niners.
K: Patriots -3 over Niners
K: Giants -7 over Seahawks. In my mind, the Seahawks simply don’t stand a chance in this one.
Ry: Giants -7 over Seahawks
Ri: Giants -7 over Seahawks
S: Giants -7 over Seahawks
K: Buccaneers +3.5 over Broncos. As tough as it is to go into Denver and win, I feel like the Buccaneers are a team that can do it. John Gruden knows all about Mike Shannahan and his shenanigans from his time in Oakland. The Bucs have come out hot and I expect that to continue, and the Broncos haven’t looked particularly impressive the last two weeks against the Saints and Chiefs.
Ry: Diabeetus -3.5 over Bucs.
Ri: Buccaneers +3.5 over Jay Cutler’s blood sugar.
S: Buccaneers +3.5 over Broncos.
K: Cardinals -1.5 over Bills. I went back and forth a few times on this game, even picking the Bills in the podcast we did. But this is too important a game for the Cardinals to lose.
Ry: Bills +1.5 over Cardinals.
Ri: Bills +1.5 over Kurt Warner’s paper or plastic abilities.
S: Cardinals -1.5 over Bills.
K: Cowboys -17 over Bengals. This game could get ugly.
Ry: Bengals +17 over Cowboys.
Ri: Bengals +17 over Cowboys.
S: Cowboys -17 over Bengals.
K: Jaguars -4.5 over Steelers. I wanted to take the Steelers here, I really did, but their lack of a running back is going to hurt them quite a bit.
Ry: Jags -4.5 over Steelers.
Ri: Jags -4.5 over Steelers.
S: Jags -4.5 over Steelers.
K: Saints -3.5 over Vikings. I need the Saints to get on track to win the NFC South. And I still don’t think Gus Frerotte is any good.
Ry: Vikings +3.5 over Saints
Ri: Saints -3.5 over Vikings.
S: Saints -3.5 over Vikings.

Do you just cruise blogs on Monday morning and call out anyone who picks against your team?
