Another Big Disappointment From the Big 10

by rich on September 15, 2008

I almost feel like an asshole for getting hyped for the USC Ohio State game for the eight months prior to Saturday’s abortion.  Ohio State not having Beanie Wells was going to play a role, I get that.  Beanie Wells doesn’t make the difference in a 35-3 rout.  Nobody does.  Sweater Vest had eight months to prepare for USC, to mix up strategies, to throw things at them that they’d never seen before.  It appeared to me that Vest woke up Friday morning, scratched out a plan that would get by on most Big 10 opponents, and went with it.  Mark Sanchez said it himself, Ohio State didn’t show USC anything they hadn’t seen before.

How many times has this happened; the media spends insane amounts of time hyping a matchup only to have the game be a huge let down.  Ohio State was never in this game, hell they were never in the state of California.  Todd Boeckman looked atrocious, it’s unclear to me why he splits playing time with Terrelle Pryor.  By the second quarter I was yelling at Vest to pull Boeckman’s sorry ass in favor of the more versatile Pryor.  But Boeckman is a fifth year senior and therefore Vest assumes he can play.  Wrong.

With a healthy Beanie Wells, I feel like this team still can hang with most teams in the nation.  Lets just hope the Ohio State Wisconsin game in two weeks doesn’t turn into the retard fight we saw two days ago.  But hey, give OSU a break.  They scheduled perennial powerhouse Troy this week.  At least they’ll beat one college named after a Greek story.

Just another example of Sweater Vest’s excessive loyalty to awful quarterbacks. Remember Justin Zwick keeping Troy Smith on the sidelines? We’re seeing it again.

Zwick was a disaster and the two-QB system simply doesn’t work. One success in countless attempts (Florida a few years back) doesn’t justify it.
