Wait! Paul Pierce Said What?

by sonny on July 30, 2008

Paul Pierce has something to say and we all better stop and listen. Unfortnately, what Pierce told a Spanish reporter this past week can’t be taken seriously. In fact it might be the best lie I have ever heard. Pierce, who was attending a basketball camp overseas, was asked if he thought Kobe Bryant was best player in the world. The interview went a little something like this:

Q: Is Kobe really the best player in the world?

Pierce: I don’t think Kobe is the best player. I’m the best player. There’s a line that separates having confidence and being conceited. I don’t cross that line but I have a lot of confidence in myself.

Q: Who are your top five favorite players in the NBA today?

Pierce: Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo, Kendrick Perkins and Paul Pierce.

Unbelievable. Funny thing is, there was a kid watching the interview live and this was his reaction.

Getting back to a more serious note, it blows my mind for Pierce to even cross this line. Kobe and Lebron stand head and shoulders above the Celtic forward and it’s not even close. Pierce isn’t even the best player on his own team. In fact, I can name a group of other players, including the likes of Tim Duncan, Steve Nash, Dwayne Wade, Carmelo Anthony, and Chris Paul to name a few.

I love how Pierce names his teammates as the next four best players in the league, also. Just because Boston took home the ultimate prize doesn’t mean we have to go through them first before analyzing the rest of the league. Pierce needs to check himself. Hard.

When you’re the best Paul, YOU won’t be the only one saying it!!!! Talk about tooting your own horn! Okay, Conceited!

Yea Paul must be joking around or something about being the best, or even better than kobe LOL…but the second question as you stated was who are your top FIVE FAVORITE players in the league? The question never stated who do you think are the BEST FIVE players in the league, so that last question, according to your research is going to result with an answer that is an opinion of Pierce’s fav five and not his BEST five.

For what it’s worth, I’d take Pierce over Carmelo Anthony from your list.

Kobe is an overrated role player. He is in the same boat as Pippen. The only thing is Pippen knew he was a role guy who did what he had to do and won rings in Jordan’s shadow. Kobe can’t do it without Shaq. How many rings does Kobe have without Shaq? How many rings did Pippen get without Jordan? Jordan and Shaq are great because they can carry a team and make everyone around them better, consistantly. Kobe is suspect at both. Now if we were talking about the rape of young women… nobody can argue Kobe’s game for that!!!

Someone should get Paul a wheelchair. With all that mouth flapping, he might fake a hammy injury. Good work Paul. You’ve confirmed to everyone you are an idiot.

First of all Kobe is not overrated. So many forget that your airness MJ was a major ball hog until he got talent around him and Phil Jackson. Second, If Shaq is so great why do he only have 4 rings when he went to 6 finals. When it was really clutch time who came up big for the lakers Kobe because Shaq couldnt shoot free throws and stayed in foul trouble. And lets not forget that he basically rode D- wade back to a fourth one. How many rings would Jordan got without Pippen is the question also. Kobe hasnt even turn 30 yet be reminded of that also. Paul P. nobody respects you now for saying that. Should had stay humble but noooo you had to open your mouth and show who you really are………which is a flop. a bum who got lucky enough to win a championship.

Kobe's not even a good player – good players don't do stuff like this, ie – cheat! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4geaMUOX3w
watching the replay, if you think about what Kobe is doing on this play, he clearly puts his leg and foot between Perkins legs, then kicks his foot and leg out to throw him off balance. Plays that are dirty/illegal, that end in injury should be looked at very seriously by the league. It isn't very good basketball when half the players are injured due to dirty illegal plays.
