The Poinsettia Bowl Blog Roll: Halftime
Posted by kevin on December 20, 2007
A few quick things I have been thinking about as the first half progressed:
- It’s relatively unexpected to see such an attractive cheer team for Navy, no offense to them but you just don’t expect women who look that good to attend service academies.
- Despite their good looks, this cheer team is not very good.
- Still trying to figure out why the Navy mascot is a ram.
- There’s a kid in the press box who is no more than 12 years old. The press pass explicitly states you have to be 18 to have such a pass. He’s here with his dad, but how the hell is he allowed up here?
- Why is the guy in front of me looking at pictures of girls in bras?
- How many hours did the public address guy put into practicing pronouncing the name of Navy quarterback Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada? He’s said it three or four times this game and each time its flawless. Needless to say, I’m very impressed.
- Why is the Utes mascot a red tailed hawk? Are they not allowed to have a fake Indian tribe member out there anymore? They had to settle for an hawk? Thank you NCAA. Regardless, his attempts to “fight” the Navy mascot were dismal.
- The way Utah lines up to punt really bothers me. Line up like a normal football team, none of this BS spread out three people in front of the punter garbage.
- Someones flatulence smelled like death. I think we have managed to identify the perp, but cannot confirm that.
- Jason Kidd is unreal, and I am thankful to have him on my fantasy basketball team.
7:39 P.M. The first half comes to a close, some of the lights in the stadium go out. Fireworks perhaps? Or just more of the pep bands? Only time will tell
7:40 P.M. Upon further review, my decision to get coffee before halftime was a great decision.
7:40 P.M. The Navy Drum and Bugle Corps will start off the halftime show, I will be entertained. It appears popcorn and cake are being served in the press box however because my duties require me to live blog the halftime show, I will not be able to partake.
7:42 P.M.The Navy student section apparently couldn’t find any beach balls, so they’re hitting around a big cardboard box instead. It looks like a commanding officer just came in and took away that fun.
7:43 P.M. The Drum and Bugle Corps is followed by the Utah marching band. Maybe we will see a menorah this time since we saw a Christmas tree last time.
7:45 P.M. No luck with the menorah so far, but the shape they just got out of almost looked like a dradle, if you got really imaginative.
7:48 P.M. Couldn’t resist the temptation of carrot cake and popcorn. The carrot cake is indeed delicious. Saw another child on the way to the snacks however, still wondering how they allow people that young in here. She had those shoes that have the wheels on them, so she was wheeling around, clearly a dangerous prospect with a bunch of uncoordinated journalists/bloggers around. Also while I was gone someone swooped into the open seats next to me. Note to self: don’t leave seat again, miss out on too much.
7:50 P.M. Sonny comes back with the German chocolate cake, looks like I may have made a mistake opting for the carrot cake.
7:51 P.M. Utah marching band still on the field, the crowd is getting slightly restless and bored.
7:52 P.M. A group of Make-a-Wish kids accompanied by Navy personnel bring out a number of flags, still folded up, waiting to be unraveled.
7:53 P.M. Fireworks just went off in the middle of an announcement by the PA announcer. I believe these may have been a bit premature, but my call of fireworks for the halftime show is proved correct, I am happy about that.
7:54 P.M. My frustration grows as my seat in the press box prevents me from seeing the fireworks because they are blocked by an overhang. Many others feeling the same way move towards the front for a better view.
7:56 P.M. The flags are unveiled to show that they say freedom and liberty with a large American flag in the middle. The fireworks continue to go for the grand finale and it looks like that will end our halftime show.
