1937: Boxer Joe Louis defeats Tommy Farr for the World Heavyweight Title at Yankee Stadium. It’s tough to have a conversation about the greatest boxers ever without mentioning the Brown Bomber. Louis went 69-3 in his career and put on some of the best fights ever. Louis would then engage himself in a huge rivalry with German Max Schmeling.

1997: In the first ever WNBA Finals, the Houston Comets defeat the New York Liberty to win the championship. In the WNBA’s first year, the Finals were just a one game playoff but switched to a three game series after the season. It’s the first of four straight championships for Cynthia Cooper and the Comets.
