Sonny’s StyleWatch: New Premiership Jerseys
Posted by sonny on July 26, 2007
Over the next few weeks I will be introducing some of the new soccer jerseys that European clubs will be donning this upcoming season. It has become almost a ritual for club teams to get a new jersey every year, making it harder on fans to keep up with the new styles. This week, our focus will be on the new English Premiership jerseys that clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool will be sporting.
Beginning with the current EPL Champions, Manchester United will head into Old Trafford this August with a more sophisticated swagger. The 2006-2007 home thread featured a past look for the Red Devils. But for the 2007-2008 campaign, the United shirts appear to look more sharp. The most significant distinction from this uniform(left) is that there is design to it. It’s subtle and simple look makes the jersey unique, unlike other teams who have more complex designs. However, on the back of this jersey, there will be a white strip that heads down the middle of the back.
Premiership runners-up Chelsea will have the same home jersey for the 2007-2008 campaign, but they will be making a splash whenever they sport their new away jersey. The bright highlighter colored jersey was worn for the first time when Chelsea played at the Home Depot Center last week against the Seuwon Bluewings. It’s certainly be a new look for the “blues” when they hit the road this season.
Fernando Torres’ new teammates at Anfield will not be sporting new Liverpool home uniforms this season. The club has decided to go ahead and stay with the current home thread that Adidas drew up for them last year. However, Liverpool will have a new away jersey along with a new black jersey that they will wear as alternate when they play in the UEFA Champions League.
Rebuilding Arsenal will follow Liverpool as they will not change their current home jersey. The Gunners will add two new jerseys this season, one of which will be a new away jersey. The all white jersey is one of the first all white jerseys that Arsenal will wear dawn in a long time. In addition, Arsenal will also have a third alternate jersey that they will wear in all competitions.
Tune in next week as I will make my way over to Spain and look at some of the new jerseys that the La Liga teams will be sporting next season.
