Brandon Roy: The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year is 23 today. Roy was selected 6th overall by the Timberwolves in last year’s draft before being traded to Portland for Randy Foye. He responded by scoring nearly 17 points a game for the Blazers, who are counting on Roy to be the face of the franchise alongside Greg Oden.
Gary Payton: The Heat point guard is turning 39 today. “The Glove” was taken 2nd overall in the 1990 Draft by the Sonics, where he played until 2003. Since leaving Seattle, he’s been on a quest to win an NBA title. That dream came true last year with the Miami Heat.
Nomar Garciaparra: The Dodgers third baseman is celebrating his 34th birthday. Nomah was once among the best shortstops in baseball while playing with the Red Sox. He was controversially traded to the Cubs at the 2004 trade deadline and now plays in Los Angeles. He’s married to soccer legend Mia Hamm.
