British driver Lewis Hamilton is the new hotness on the Formula 1 circuit.? After the retirement of Michael Schumacher, F1 has been looking for someone who can be the face of the sport.? Hamilton might be it.? He has finished on the podium in each of his eight starts this year, something that’s pretty incredible for a rookie driver.? By winning the pole this week at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, it marked his third start on the pole this season.? Both of his previous starts on the pole resulted in first place finishes.? Hamilton also leads the point standings with 64 points.? Second place, Fernando Alonso, is 14 points back.
I’ve never been able to understand why America can’t get fully into F1.? While we love guys driving in circles in “stock cars”, there’s clearly a better option out there.? Formula 1 pits the best cars in the world with the best drivers in the world.? Shouldn’t America be eating that up?? Or is it because we Americans don’t have one of our own who is competitive in the sport?
If you’ve never watched a Formula 1 event before, I’ll recommend it to you.? With the emergence of a new star in F1, it’s going to be even more worthwhile to see.? For now, let’s just see what the rookie can do on his home course this week.
