The New York vs. Boston Rivarly Goes to a new Level
Posted by kevin on June 4, 2007
Every year the New York sports media plays against the Boston sports media in a pick up game of baseball. This year was no different, except that friendly game of baseball got slightly out of hand.
In a scene reminiscent of the Friday night beanball war, there was very nearly a bench clearing brawl in the media game. The Boston Spanish radio broadcaster was hit in the head by a pitch from a New York reliever. Things immediately got out of hand, as the benches cleared and there was very nearly a brawl.
I find this hilarious not only for the fact that some guy took a shot to the head, but also because people actually got angry enough about it to almost fight. I don’t think there was enough bad blood between the two sides to warrant a brawl. I can understand that now there might be, but before this, I wouldn’t have imagined this was the case. The incident was probably an accident, but now there will be some bad blood. When things get rough between the Yankees and Red Sox on the field I guess you can also expect things to get testy in the press box as well.
Unfortunately there is no video of the incident. There are a bunch of pictures from the game here. There aren’t any from the brawl, I’m sure people were far too concerned with breaking up the fight than they were with snapping pictures of it, which is really quite a shame. Hopefully the bad blood will be there next year as well.
