Michelle Wie Loves Failure

by kevin on May 23, 2007

In what appears to be becoming a common trend, Michelle Wie has once again set herself up for complete and utter failure. This time, I can’t wait to see it happen so I can once again say “told you so” to no one in particular. Wie has accepted a sponsors exemption to partake in the John Deere classic for the third time.

Wie missed the cut when she first played this tournament in 2005 and then last year removed herself midway through the second round due to “heat exhaustion.” That means she was going to miss the cut and wanted to save herself some embarrassment. Wie has proved to us twice that she can’t cut it on the PGA tour, hell she’s even proved she can’t cut it on the LPGA tour, trying to play in this tournament just isn’t a good idea. She can’t make the cut when she’s healthy, how the hell does she expect to make the cut coming off an injury? It simply isn’t going to happen. What’s going to happen is Wie will go out and fire high numbers and miss the cut and become a non-story until she decides to do the same thing at another tournament.

I can’t blame the sponsors, what they are doing will clearly generate more interest in the tournament, but what Wie is doing is just stupid. It isn’t helping her grow as a golfer, if anything it’s stunting that growth. Unfortunately, we’ll all have to put up with her crap throughout at least this tournament, and probably for a few more after.
