Sonny’s StyleWatch: Let’s Solve a Puzzle!

The New Era Cap Company is always coming up with new designs and creations that will hopefully open consumer’s wallets. Last week, we featured the MLB Moon Man and this week, we bring to you the new MLB Jigsaw creation.

First of all, I would like to meet the designer of this hat and ask him what was he thinking when he drew this up. I like the idea that New Era was trying to go with, but I don’t think they put the pieces together right to solve the puzzle.

Believe it or not, the Florida Marlins hat(right) is probably the best cap available. The puzzle mess doesn’t get too out of control, unlike the Detroit Tigers cap. If you take a closer look, you can see that the entire hat is stitched like a puzzle, with only some areas colored in. I really like how the whole cap is stitched like a puzzle, but why are some parts being colored in color unrelated to the team?

The MLB Jigsaw hat doesn’t come for every single MLB team. I really think that this will turn many potential buyers away because their favorite team doesn’t have a cap created for them. For example, why would a Tampa Bay Devil Rays fan go out and buy a New York Yankee Jigsaw hat? If the Devil Rays fan cared about allegiance to their squad, I don’t think he would go into his wallet and spend $40.00 on another team.

All in all, you have to give New Era credit for trying to branch out and come up with new styles for caps. Sometimes, the designs grab our attention and make us want to buy. And sometimes, the creations make us turn our heads in disgust. The MLB Jigsaw has some missing pieces, pieces which are required to solve this design puzzle.
