Sonny’s StyleWatch: Reds Unveil New Uni’s
Posted by sonny on April 26, 2007
The Cincinnati Reds have sharpened up their wardrobe for the first time since 1993. The logo and colors remain the same obviously, but there a few changes to the uniforms that are making Red fans scurry to the shelves. Back in 1993, the Reds took the field at old Riverfront Stadium with some new cut-off sleeve jerseys. The unis were made famous by Deion Sanders in the mid 90’s and then by Ken Griffey Jr. at the turn of the millennium.
New for 2007, the Reds have ditched the cut-off sleeve look and the red pinstripes. The new home jersey(right) keeps the Reds’ logo near the left shoulder. It is also trimmed on the sleeves and down the chest in red. However, there is one thing that I really enjoy about the new uni. The Reds have decided to bring back Mr. Red and his scary mustache. He makes his return to the left sleeve as the Reds’ only patch.
Cincinnati has also decided to switch up their alternate red uniform as well. In year’s past, the Reds alternate had a black trim. But now the new alternate has a white trim. The Reds can wear this uniform either at home or away, whenever they please. When the Reds hit the road this year, they will also be sporting new road jerseys. Mr. Red will not be on the sleeves. Instead, the Reds’ logo will adorn the left sleeve. Just like the other new jerseys, the Reds have done away with the cut-off sleeves. The font across the jersey has also changed from a modern look to an older style font.
All in all, the new package of Reds uniforms looks great. I’m a huge fan of the new home jersey, as it brings back the glory days of Reds baseball. The jerseys have been welcomed thus far by fans, but only one question remains. Will the new jerseys be lucky enough to get the Reds back to the postseason for the time since 1995?
