A Letter to ESPN and Major League Baseball

yankees-sawx-custom.jpgDear ESPN and Major League Baseball,

Before you got your scummy hands all over schedule-making, divisional matchups used to be interesting. What have you turned it into? You’ve turned it into watered-down garbage. The Yankees and the Red Sox will meet 15 times this year. Is there a way you can ensure that they’re not on national television every single time they meet?

Friday- 7:05 PM EST: Red Sox vs. Yankees on ESPN
Saturday- 4:00 PM EST: Red Sox vs. Yankees on FOX
Sunday- 8:05 PM EST: Red Sox vs. Yankees on ESPN

What the hell is this? I have a confession to make. I don’t give a shit about this matchup. Please tell me. What in the hell is go great about the Yankees playing the Red Sox? Schilling vs. Pettite? A-Rod at Fenway? I’ve seen this 100 times in the last two seasons. Are the other 28 teams in Major League Baseball really that unbearable?

As far as I’m concerned, this “rivalry” is still the most one-sided in the history of sports. The Red Sox may have made their historic comeback a couple of seasons ago but how did the Yankees respond? How about maintaining their streak of AL East Championships? How about pimp slapping the Sawx in five consecutive games last season? No matter how hard you guys try to shove this garbage down my throat, I. Don’t. Care.

In a way, this rivalry represents every single reason for the establishment of this website. I got tired of the same crap in the media, I got tired of the same teams and players, and I got tired of the hype. Alex Rodriguez has 10 homers but is constantly one mistake away from being chastised by New York and the media. The Red Sox have Daisuke Matsuzaka. Great, he’s 1-2. If and when this matchup happens in October, give me a call. But April 20th? I’m going to have to pass.
