Sonny’s Stylewatch: D’backs Shed Skin

dbacks-threads-custom.jpgIt has been an exciting opening week for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2007. The Snakes have started off extremely hot, winning seven of their first ten games. Some credit the start to some great starting pitching and their young talent. But maybe a new look has something to do with the resurgence in the desert.

I was never a huge fan of the purple and swamp green jerseys from years past. From home whites to road grays, they all looked the same to me. For 2007, the Diamondbacks have plenty to choose from. Their locker is filled with choices that will never get old during a homestand.

In my opinion, the Diamondbacks’ new home jerseys look far better than the new road unis. The standard white home jersey is a step in the right direction for the Snakes, as the new color scheme and sleeve patch are shown off nicely. The Diamondbacks also have unveiled a new home alternate in red, as well as a second alternate in black.

The D’backs also upgraded the Arizona “A” from last year, placing it on the right side of their new black jersey. Arizona can wear this black jersey on the road as well. All home jerseys will be worn with the Diamondbacks new red home cap. If the D’backs wear the black uni, they will wear their standard road cap. When the Diamondbacks hit the road, they will come out of the dugout wearing some new gray road jerseys. The font on the front of the jersey is the same used on the white home threads. But much like a standard road jersey, Arizona is adorned across the chest instead of their team name.

I’m glad the Diamondbacks ditched the swamp colors and went with a more intimidating look this season. My favorite jersey would have to be the alternate black jersey that can be worn at home or on the road. All in all, Arizona has done well with the change and their new look could definitely translate into more wins in 2007.
