If you read us, there’s a good chance you read many of the other great sports blogs out there. One of those is The Big Lead. This is a blog that’s been one of my favorites since we got going in October. In fact, they were the first blog to ever link us. And for that, we defend them in their battle. Who are they battling? ESPN’s Colin Cowherd.
Here’s a guy with some serious, serious entitlement issues because he works for ESPN. Last year, he reportedly “found” some humorous Wonderlic questions while browsing the Internet. Those actually came from The M Zone, a Michigan Wolverines blog. Deadspin jumped in and most blogs united against Colin. Cowherd eventually realized he was wrong and gave credit to the site that provided the real material. Basically, he finally gave in to the fundamental rule that journalists shouldn’t steal material. What a novel concept!
And now, Deadspin has broke another story involving Cowherd and those pesky bloggers. This time, it involves The Big Lead, who allegedly wrote some disparaging remarks about Cowherd and his show. Cowherd responded like any classy member of the media would. He told his listeners to “unleash a DNS attack” on the site. Some nerd in a basement took those demands without question and flooded Big Lead with fake traffic, crashing the server in the process.
Isn’t this a classy gesture? Trust me Colin, I don’t care about your ESPN affiliation. After all, this hack is employed by ESPN too. She has an opinion; I disagree with it. But I’m sure as hell not going to call for someone to hack her site. A great thing about the Internet is everyone can write what they think, regardless of how outlandish it is. But because of your childish act, I will never listen to any other ESPN Radio show again. Cowherd and “The Herd” can suck it.
