When somebody accuses you of being drunk when you’re not, how do you respond? You might offer an explanation. You might deny all claims. But if you’re Mr. Universe Doug Burns, you’ll end up with Mace to the eyes.
What started as a typical night at the movies turned insane. Burns, a diabetic, was suffering from low blood sugar because of new medication. Because of this, he stumbled towards a snack bar in an attempt to raise his blood sugar. What started as a simple craving for Milk Duds or Goobers turned into a real ugly situation. Instead of candy, Burns was given shots of Mace to the eyes.
Despite Burns likely having some roid rage, what the hell are the cops thinking here? Burns had a Medic Alert bracelet on and he definitely had low blood sugar. If he lunges at an officer, it’s probably cause his lack of blood sugar is really owning him. Do we really need four cops jumping him and macing his eyes? I know they want the bragging rights of taking down some “big drunk” at the movie theater but they could have been a little smoother in the process.
I don’t know where Burns likes to see movies but our local theaters, our “security” is some fat teenager. Maybe he could have talked to Burns instead of calling in the fuzz? Maybe Burns has some extra testosterone to burn because of his roid cocktails. But without a doubt, the cops could have been a little more careful here.
