Gordie Howe: One of the all-time NHL greats turns 79 today. Before Wayne Gretzky, it was Howe that dominated NHL record books. Howe sits behind Gretzky in points, assists, and career goals. He won six league MVPs and won four Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings, who retired his #9 jersey.
Chien-Ming Wang: The young Yankees star is 27 today. Wang won 19 games for the Bronx Bombers in 2006 and could be a contender for the Cy Young award this year. He will start the season on the disabled list but look for him to have a strong year anyway. He hails from Taiwan.
Pavel Bure: The “Russian Rocket” is 36 today. Bure retired from the NHL in 2005 but had a very nice NHL career, scoring 437 goals in his career. Bure had his best years for the Canucks and Panthers but also played with the Rangers late in his career.
