Congrats Madison, not only are you the top party school in the nation, you also lay claim to the best basketball team in the land. The Badgers snagged the top spot in the AP poll after a weekend that saw the former top team, Florida, fall to Vanderbilt.
The biggest news that can come from this isn’t Wisconsin’s ascention to the top spot, but instead it’s the game that the Badgers will be playing this coming Sunday. Who, you ask? The Badgers will be headed to Columbus to play the Ohio State Buckeyes, who are now the 2nd ranked team in the land. This is the second time that Ohio State has treated us to a match up of two top teams going head to head, with the last being their epic battle with Michigan in football last fall.
Gotta tip the hat to the Big 10. They have the two top college basketball teams right now and, with the continuing development of Greg Oden and the dominance of Alando Tucker, can lay claim to two of the top three players in the land. The real dilemma is going to come when it’s tournament selection time, and only one of these two teams can pick up a top seed for the midwest. Count on some controversy, but in the end it won’t matter much because both of these teams will roll through the tournament.
Get excited, college basketball fans. The Badgers, who might be the best team you’ve never watched, are now the best team in the country. Their matchup with Ohio State this sunday will be a great game, and it’s going to be a great stage for two great players to showcase their talent.
