In Irrelevant Charles Barkley News…

You have to love the stories that aren’t worth writing. Is this one of them? Maybe. But I’m only writing it in response to one very, very pointless story. According to ESPN.com, Charles Barkley won $700,000 this weekend. No, seriously. That’s it. He didn’t donate the money to Uganda, he wasn’t mugged outside of the Wynn Cash Cage. He just won.
“That was all profit [from] blackjack and I bet on the Super Bowl. I had the Colts,” Barkley added. “I played a lot of blackjack.”
Did you have the Colts, Charles? I figured that. Maybe Kenny Smith took the Bears. Why hasn’t ESPN written an article about his gambling losses? But what else did Barkley bet? Maybe he touched that doozy of a prop bet that was on Bodog throughout Super Bowl week: Will Billy Joel sing the National Anthem in over or under 1 minute, 44 seconds?
Is this a story because Barkley is well known for liking gambling? Or is it a story to call out Barkley for staying in the casino despite losing about $10 million because of betting? Either way, it’s really not that big of a deal. I’m sure there’s tons of people that won millions of dollars on Sunday.
Maybe Barkley was the powerful person that arranged Tony Dungy going for it on 4th down rather than kicking a field goal to put the game over 48 total points. I’m still very skeptical about that decision. As a novice sports gambler, I’ve seen sketchy things like that way too much.
Oh, and because you care, I lost $50 on Sunday. Thanks Rexy.

[...] If I was in that situation, I’d be holding on to that extra dough. Listen, it’s not my fault that some big wig with a desk job and a nice computer can’t count to 3 twice. Give the money to charity. Invest it in one of the literally hundreds of charitable organizations started by NFL players. Make the United Way happy. At least he isn’t taking his extra couple mill to the casino. [...]
