Rivalry Week…..Hooray!

cameron indoorAttention college basketball fans: this week is going to be absolutely amazing. As someone whos opinions about the NBA are souring and is converting to a full-time college basketball-aholic, I am so excited for this week’s set of games. Michigan vs Ohio State, Duke vs UNC, Texas vs Texas A&M, as well as others. Hell yes.

I hadn’t gotten to watch much of A&M play until i watched them play against Kansas on Saturday and I will admit that I am very impressed with the boys from college station. The phrase, college station, is something that ESPN announcers will sack ride for the duration of the game, so get used to hearing it. Acie Law is the man, plain and simple. He’s ambidextrious so he shoots his threes with his left hand, but puts up layups with his right. He’s going up against Kevin Durant, who I’m pretty sure isn’t actually human. Durant is in a class of his own, and I simply can’t wait for tonight to watch him go ape shit.

Does Duke even care anymore? And how the hell are they still ranked in the top 10 after they have made a habit out of losing conference games? You can’t lose to Florida State at Cameron Indoor, you just can’t. Hopefully they were just looking ahead to UNC, and will be ready to play on Wednesday as the best rivalry in sports heats up once again. And on the topic of UNC, Tyler Hansborough is going to make Josh McRoberts his bitch.

Then there’s Ohio State, who will meet unranked Michigan this week in what will still promise to be a good game. Thats the beauty of college basketball. Rivalries, no matter how unevenly matched the teams are, bring out upsets and bring out the best in players. I think in the end, however, it’s once again going to be about the 40 year old playing center for the Buckeyes. Greg Oden is right there with Kevin Durant, and if he would stop breaking his hands all the time, he’d be even better.
