Add Johnathan Joseph to the Bengals long, long list of criminals. Add him to the list of stupid spelling of names but that’s another story. Joseph was arrested for possession of marijuana, the 9th Bengals player to be arrested in the last nine months. Nine Bengals. Roughly one in every seven Bengals has spent time in the clank this season. That’s absolutely pathetic.
I’ve seen teams with some pretty piss-poor crime records. The Cowboys had some trouble with Michael Irvin and Leon Lett. The Chargers also had lots of problems with player discipline off the field. But neither of them can come close to Cincinnati.
When a Boone County sheriff’s deputy asked Joseph to get out of the vehicle, he smelled marijuana. The deputy searched Joseph’s black backpack with a Super Bowl logo and found a bag of marijuana in a pouch, the arrest report said.
At least Joseph’s bag makes a lot of sense. Maybe he should have bought a backpack with “8-8″ stitched on the front of it. Or because he’s a Bengal, he could have just stitched the words, “Yes, there’s something illegal in this bag.” It would have saved everybody a lot of time.
It’s hard to fathom what Joseph was thinking. He’s set to compete for the starting cornerback job next season. This arrest might throw a wrench into that process. But Joseph probably shouldn’t feel too worried. His rival corners will also be wearing orange by the time training camp starts. Prisoner orange, not Bengal orange.
