What to Watch 1-3-07

7:00 PM EST Kansas St. Wildcats vs. Xavier Musketeers (ESPN2): Bob Huggins is off to a nice start with Kansas St. The Wildcats have won six in a row, including two recent wins over tough USC and New Mexico teams. They go up against a very tough Xavier team, fresh off their home win over Illinois on Friday. K-State could find themselves sniffing the polls if they play well this week; they go up against Texas A&M on Saturday.
8:00 PM EST North Carolina Tarheels vs. Penn Quakers (ESPN): It’s UNC’s final tuneup before ACC play begins. But don’t sleep on the Quakers. They’ve made consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and nearly pulled off a stunning upset vs. Texas in last year’s tournament. They play smart basketball and could test Carolina more than some expect. UNC hasn’t lost since November 22.
8:15 PM EST LSU Tigers vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (FOX): Most people have predicted blowout in this game and with good reason: LSU’s athleticism is heads and shoulders above the Irish defense. But Charlie Weis and Brady Quinn may have something to say about it. It’s Quinn’s final game at Notre Dame and I doubt he’ll want to bow out at 0-3 in bowl games. But it’ll be a real test playing in the pro-LSU Superdome in New Orleans.
