Poor Jason Jennings. He simply can’t catch a break. He’s managed to pitch pretty effectively in his first four years at Coors Field with the Rockies. His stats weren’t always pretty but he won games and fared a hell of a lot better than guys like Mike Hampton or Denny Neagle. Jennings is finally leaving the pitcher’s hellhole of Coors Field…and heading towards Houston’s bandbox. The Astros acquired Jennings in exchange for center fielder Willy Taveras. Somewhere, Jennings is throwing thing because his stats are still going to be mediocre pitching in Houston.
With a road era almost a run lower in his career, Jennings showed he had lots of talent. He was the 2002 NL Rookie of the Year and pitched very well last year. When he got the phonecall about a trade, he probably figured he’d be going to a park that’s a bit easier to pitch in. Not the case. Minute Maid Field may be at normal elevation but it’s so small in left field, I could probably hit the ball out. Regardless, Houston has made some nice pickups for their rotation despite losing Andy Pettite
The Red Sox might have made some progress with Japanese import Daisuke Matsuzaka. He’s heading back to Boston on a plane with Sox officials, a sign they may have reached a preliminary agreement. But they may lured him to the plane with promises of American products like Levis and rock and roll CDs, we still don’t know. Matsuzaka will lilely have his sack checked (while coughing) today in Boston so we can expect an announcement of signing at some point soon. The deadline to sign him is 12:00 AM EST today.
