College Football Best Bets for 10-28-06

sweed-custom.jpgHopefully, you took some of my advice in last weeks version of best bets. Last weeks picks went 4-0, which brings my record up to 6-2 so far this year. I think the games this week are much more difficult so be weary of college football this weekend. If you’re looking for the best odds, there are tons of good options in the NFL this week, especially for teasers.

Texas -10 over Texas Tech: One of my stronger plays for Saturday. Texas’ offense has put up more than 40 points in their last five meetings vs. the Red Raiders. Texas Tech has looked pretty vulnerable in the last few games, losing to Colorado and Missouri. Texas is a bit better than those two teams. Texas Tech’s passing attack will be slowed down just like it always is when they play a good defense. Another good bet in this one could be the over. Texas has gone over in 10 of their last 11 night games, while Texas Tech has gone over in 15 of their last 20 night games. Teasing the spread and over (56) is probably easy money and something I’ll look into this weekend.

Georgia +13.5 over Florida: I like to bet on rivalry games because intensity plays such a huge role. And this spread is way too high for a rivalry game like this one. “The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” is always your typical close SEC game. The last four meetings have been decided by seven points or less. How will Florida come off their loss to Auburn? Georgia has been anything but impressive lately and have failed to cover in their last five games. I think Mark Richt gets it done and keeps his Georgia team close. Georgia still has a great defense and should be able to keep it close into the 4th quarter.

Georgia Tech vs. Miami Under 37: Miami’s last six games have gone under. Their offense is laughable but the defense remains very strong. The Canes are pretty crippled by suspensions but I don’t think they’ll allow more than 20 points. The spread is pretty low considering how bad Miami has played but both teams have great defenses that should keep the total low unless they play some overtime. The total has gone under the last two years.

Notre Dame -14 over Navy: That comeback win versus UCLA may have been lucky, ugly, or both. But it’s definitely a game that defines seasons and increases momentum. Look for the Irish to come out and dominate this one. The road team has covered 10 of the last 11 games in this rivalry and I think the spread is a bit lower than what it should be. Notre Dame has been a lousy cover team all year but I think they get it done. Once again, this is a great teaser bet if you can get the spread down to -8 or so.
