Holla Back Young’n, I Stole Your Chain

fabolous.jpgSome NBA players visiting New York City for a road game may walk around Times Square, see the Statue of Liberty, maybe even shoot some hoops at Rucker Park. Sebastian Telfair, a Rucker Park legend, decided he didn’t just want to shoot hoops. He wanted to shoot rappers as well. Police are investigating a possible connection between Sebastian Telfair and the shooting of famous NYC rapper Fabolous. The conflict allegedly started after Telfair’s $50,000 chain was ripped from his neck.

What the hell is Telfair doing in this situation? He left Portland in the offseason, possibly hoping to play for a winner but also looking to shed the typical Jail Blazer image of past Portland players. Telfair has been fined in the past for having a loaded gun on the team jet. But he got out of that because the gun was registered to his girlfriend. No charges were filed. But this isn’t a good situation to be in right before the start of the season, regardless of Telfair’s involvement. But then again, NBA players have crappy timing to begin with.

After Telfair’s necklace was taken from him, rapper Fabolous was shot in the leg outside of Justin’s, a club owned by P. Diddy. Fabolous was later arrested with his posse for having loaded guns in their SUV but Telfair wasn’t able to identify anybody from police lineups. Maybe Telfair should just concentrate on running the Celtics’ offense in two weeks time. I’m sure that needs some work.

Telfair was seen talking on the phone while the shooting took place. I’m just wondering why in the hell he’s involved in a conflict with a fellow New York legend. Apparently the days of coast allegiances in hip-hop are gone. Fabolous has two platinum CDs, some big hits that include “Breathe” but he’s now allegedly stealing necklaces from fellow New Yorkers that he could easily buy himself.

Maybe Telfair should have rolled to Justin’s with a posse like Fabolous was. I’m sure Wally Szczerbiak and Luke Jackson wanted to go clubbing. Their presence would have ended any potential crimes that were bound to take place.
